What do you want for Jeff Woywitka?

If Cliff Fletcher picks up the phone to Davidson and asks about Jeff Woywitka, what could you see Davidson saying?

JD won't reject any trade he thinks will improve the team now or in the future. However, I think there would have to be a slight over-payment to get him, seeing as how we need every D-man we can get who has even a shred of offensive potential.

he is having a great year in the ahl...
I recall how coburn was considered a disappointment before this year... i could see woywitka follow a similar path to the NHL next year

He was good for the Blues in the latter half of last season. I think the general opinion was that he had played his way onto the team. But Wagner showed up and the management decided to hang onto everyone else, so they put him in a top role in the minors instead.

I didn't see him in training camp, but it seemed that he had regressed somewhat, or maybe just hadn't progressed the way they wanted - I'm really not sure. However, since he has to pass through waivers, if he's questionable at all for sticking with the team, I perfectly understand the decision to keep him down for now.

I don't know how management feels about him, but if it were my call, I wouldn't want to move him. He plays a solid all-around game, is a good skater, doesn't shy away from physical play, and can move the puck. Not the ideal guy on the powerplay, but definitely preferrable to putting, say, Jackman out there. Woywitka is part of the depth that makes a lot of Blues fans willing or even actively desiring packaging up guys like Backman, Jackman, etc.

Like I said, where he actually fits into their plans, I'm not sure. But if the Blues are looking to unload veteran defensemen this year, Woywitka looks like one of the main replacements on tap - meaning that he's not for sale or you'd have to overpay.

I don't see the point in moving him, St. Louis isn't in the position to play for this year and getting a prospect with less experience seems rather pointless. No way is Fletcher offering anything higher than a 3rd for him and he's worth more than that to the Blues.

I would suppose if you were selling off Steen or Stajan he might fit in a package deal but I doubt Leafs fans would go for that.

The like for like trade might work if Jarmo knows of a prospect under-rated in the Leafs organization, I still think highly of Pogge but again...no way Leafs fans are moving him.

My guess is that Woywitka won't be shipped out before it's clear which of Backman, Jackman and Salvador will stay, unless some GM offers a major overpayment.

Dont forget that he will have to go thru waivers IF he goes back. So it is possible that a trade may be in the works.

I'd have to agree with this.

Woywitka's having a career year in Peoria, so it makes absolutely no sense to bring him up just to have him sit in the pressbox for a few weeks, then send him down again and risk losing him on waivers (a 99.9% probability, IMO).

I'm guessing talks aren't going well with Jackman's agent, and Woywitka is here to be an NHL-caliber 6/7 defenseman when Backman returns from IR and Jackman is (potentially) traded.

I want Jeff to play really well, (and add more hitting and toughness to his game, pass well and add more offence to the defence corps), so he can replace any traded D-men, and improve the team. I'm not interested in seeing him traded, unless there is a gross overpayment, as The Blues need to add offence from the blueline.

Has he looked as well as his stats indicate? I could of sworn I read that he was lacking some consistency earlier in the year, but he could have very well turned it around.

I'll say this; he's been pretty much the best defensemen on the ice for Peoria every time I've seen them play this year.

Have you seen them while Polak and/or Wagner were playing?

Yep.

They looked good, too -- as did Hellstrom -- but Woywitka was just a cut above, IMO.

Overall, I've been pretty impressed with Peoria's defense in general this year.

Do you guys think they are bringing up Woywitka to show case him for a trade? It will be kind of a bummer if they bring him in and he plays well and then they trade him at the deadline.

I wonder what kind of return we can get for him if we package him w/ Rucinsky.

It will be interesting to see how everything plays out at the trade deadline approaches.

Is Rucinsky expected back before the deadline?

I am sure that I read when we recalled Wags that he was about to start team practice again.

I don't think there is much of a chance that we have brought Woywitka up with the thoughts of trading him. I think he is part of the plans for next season and, clearly now, this season.
