Question regarding standings...

I was looking at the standings for the Eastern Conference, and noticed that we have more points than both Carolina and Philadelphia, yet we're fourth. Can anyone explain this?

I get that they are....but why? When clearly....we have the points....what makes them the division leaders?

oups, well "if they're not, then what's the point of divisions?" that's what I've heard.

Because the teams of each conference are divided into geographical divisions. Think of each division as it's own mini league. You're in front of your mini league, you get a top spot in the playoffs.

I think it's a bad rule IMO, but there's not much a fella can do about it.

... I hate divisional standing !!!!! This year we might have one team of not two teams that have less points than the fourth place teams, and even the eight placed team.

Each team in the Conference should play 4 games against the 14 others. That's it. The 8 best would be the eight best then.

Get a relief guys, they could eliminate it right next season.

Why?

Because both the Rags and the Leafs are gonna miss the playoffs, but Carolina or whatever else **** team is gonna make it because of the divisional lead and with the way the standings are right now and the way the SW teams are underperforming, it is very likely that TO or Rags miss the playoffs with more pts than the "qualified" SW team.
