Gionta Proposals

Any offers for Gionta come here.

He just isn't fitting in with Sutter for some reason and I've noticed him spending time on the checking lines.

Gionta would be a nice fit with the Canucks IMO. Something based around Lukas Krajicek or Luc Bourdon?

Gionta would be great with an elite playmaker. Him with the Sedin's would be fantastic.

The Devils really need a number 1 defenseman if they want to be a real contender for the Cup. Is Ohlund still on IR?

Ohlund is back, but won't be dealt(NTC). The Devils won't get a #1 d-man for Gionta, that's pushing it.

Even if he is healthy I doubt you guys would consider dealing him. Just wanted to see if he is trade able.

Ohlund along with Mitchell and Salo all have NTC's, so it's extremely unlikely that any would be dealt. Bieksa is a possibility, but at this point his value can't be all that high so it wouldn't be smart of Nonis to move him. He's also a very valuable part of the Canucks when healthy, providing a level of grit/toughness and top 4 ability that nobody on the Canucks really brings(outside of Mitchell and Ohlund to an extent).

One of Krajicek or Bourdon is likely to be dealt at some point though.

Is Bieksa getting healthy? or is he still going to out a while?

He's going to start skating on Friday and then from there he might be a couple of weeks away.

We'll have a better idea in 7-10 days.

Take out the 2nd from New Jersey and that's a pretty solid deal.

We need a #1 defenseman, say better then a guy named Paul Martin.

Hence, we could try and deal Gio for that #1 d-man.

Gionta won't get you a #1 defenseman.

Not Gionta alone but, with a few picks or prospects it could happen.

and the canucks need a legit #1 winger - say better then a guy named Brian Gionta!

Gionta isn't going to get a #1 dman back, unless it's one that's devalued (a soon-to-be UFA from a non-playoff team, like Campbell, or one that is past his prime, like Blake, or one that was once a #1 but his value is down since then, like Kubina).

If those are the types of dmen you want, Gionta can probably get it... but you aren't going to get a guy like Ohlund for Gionta... no team is going to give up a key dman like that, who plays a huge role on their current teams.

New Jersey isn't interested in moving roster players for prospects. If Gionta is traded, it will be for a player who can have an immediate impact and help New Jersey make a legit playoff run. What we need is a #1 defenseman (which will take more than New Jersey is willing to offer so don't bother) or a PP quarterback.

Other than Bieska, theres nothing on Vancouver avaliable that interests the Devils.

like who? what examples are there?

the reason I ask is that I don't think you're going to get one just by adding picks or prospects (unless they're significant prospects).

#1 dmen are very valuable in the NHL, and teams don't move them just because you throw more quantity in a deal...

just scan over the 29 other rosters in the NHL, and list which #1 dmen you can realistically get by adding picks and prospects to Gionta... I'm sure the list will contain a bunch of questionable names, or soon to be UFAs coming from non-playoff teams... no established #1 dmen under contract, and especially one on a team with playoff aspirations, will be moved for a pkg around Gionta.

Unless that "stuff" is Zach Parise, the Flames wouldn't be interested. A tiny, 25 goal scorer with one year left on his contract isn't going to land a #1 defenseman, and adding picks/propsects isn't going to even it up.

I actually agree somewhat. Devils fans know we don't have many really good prospects.

If the Devils need a defenseman for a playoff run, what about Jackman for Gionta straight up?

That's a simple deal that addresses the immediate needs of both teams.
