i can't say i'll miss shelley on the ice point wise, but i always liked to see his desire. for his skill level, i can't say i've ever seen him slacking off.

perhaps one day we'll get to see him back .. in the announcer's booth with tyler

good luck to you, shelley.

Jody wasn't going to play another game this season so we got something for nothing.

Now we have some flexibility when it comes to making a move with Jody off the roster.

Big question is now what do the In-Game Ops people do?

Jody was the All-Star when it came to Jumbotron videos

It frees up salary from a guy who was a scratch every night. And we get a draft pick. That is a direct help. Maybe now Howson can afford to go after that puck-moving defensman or playmaking center? There's your indirect implication.

Do I really need to single people out? Most responses have been level-headed, yes.

thank god we got SOMETHING for him...Shelley had been pretty much irrelevant since Hitch took over in Nov. 06.

I appreciate What Shelley did for this franchise, but this move is LONG overdue.

I think Hitch gave Jody plenty of opportunity to find his niche under the Hitch system. Shockingly so, imo. To Hitch's credit, he recognized Jody's status under the previous administration and service to the fans. It was only this season that it was apparent Jody's days were numbered.

My money is on no one, I doubt he'll even be dressed.

You do realize you are talking about around 275k right and that he's a UFA at the end of the season? It's white noise as far as "affording" someone this year and does nothing for next year.

The move, on it's own, does nothing to help this team other then free up a contract and allow us to bring up someone else, in his place, from the AHL if we wanted to have him sit on the bench.

Financially it's as close to meaningless as you can possibly get in the scheme of things.

More often then not, that 6 round pick will be just as meaningless.

You don't trade for a guy if you aren't going to play him

Same here. It's not like I didn't see this coming, but I'm very sad right now.

I didn't see it coming b/c I didn't think anyone would want him to be honest.

So, a team with plenty of cap space which could generate extra revenues by making the playoffs needed $275K and a sixth round pick to get those pieces? Or, is it that the 6th rounder was all we were missing to get the deal done?

Brule + a 6th rounder for Jokinen (e5).

This trade means more to San Jose who is going to need toughness if they're going to outlast the Ducks to win the Pacific than it does to us.

oh well. Now i gotta figure out how to tell my kids in the morning. THEY will be quite upset. It does increase the toughness of SJ. Clears the spot for Brule.

This is little more than this year's Anson Carter trade. I wouldn't advise anyone to read any more into it than that.

its about time we got rid of him. time to part ways and move on. its like i have been saying all year, we dont need that type of player on our team. we have better players that can essentially do the same role.

I really hoped that he would be around to see the playoff run, even if he wasn't playing. He is such a quality guy and he worked his ass off on and off the ice through some very bad years and took a lot of stitches for this team. I wish he could have been here to see a playoff game. However I really hope that he is re-energized in SJ and sees some playing time and gets to his 400 games. Very sad day for long time Jackets fans, who gives a crap about a 6th rounder or his salary or the freed up contract. He was one of the faces that put people in the seats during some very bad years and he should get a proper sendoff. Thanks Jody!

I wonder if the names Thornton or Marleau ever came up during the talks.
