Healthy D-Man=9

Sutton Kaberle
Majesky Grand-Pierre
Exelby Kloucek
Tgarnqvist Tremblay
Tamer

There may be a time in the Thrashers near future where there will be 9 healthy D-Men on the Thrashers roster. Who stays and who goes?

Tamer & Tjarnqvist to the Rangers for Moore or Garth Murray or Juris Stals or Lee Falardeau + condional pick(s).

How about Tamer instead of Tjarnqvist

Hasn't Tjarnqvist been your best defenseman over the past month or so?

Nah, that would be Kaberle. Tjarnqvist has played well though, certainly.

He has been very good over the last month or so. I'd rather see Tremblay & Tamer gone, but they get a lot of minutes under Hartley and I trust his judgement no matter how bad Tremblay sucks.

JLGP has looked very good as a d-man. Very pleasant surprise back there but he has been logging some major minutes recently and I'm sure his consistency or lack of it will show very soon. We really need Sutton back.

I'm hoping the Thrashers can bring in a right handed d-man through a trade, we've got too many lefties back there IMO.

Exelby is the only one we can send down without having to clear waivers.

There is no question that some trades will have to be made, and if you look around the NHL there has never been a better time to have a glut of NHL ready defenseman.

I can see Ottawa making a pitch for a depth defenceman

Maybe but he has been one of ours best defencemen althrough he is a rookie. Tamer must definitivly go! As for Tjarnqvist, he did improve his play a huge way so I don't see why we have to trade him. About Tremblay, I would be mad to see him go throught

I've been thinking about this defenseman issue for some time. I don't see how Tamer and Trembley have any future with this team. I will confess that I've disliked both for some time so a trade for either (or both) would make me very happy.

I have not been impressed with Kloucek either. JLGP has been a pleasant surprise--I think he has a future here.

So the keepers are: Sutton, Kaberle, X, JLGP, Tjarnqvist and Majesky.

Still not a great lineup but adequate for now. Tamer should be 1st trade bait. Trembley next. Kloucek we'll see what becomes of him.

This my take on the defenceman we have:

2. Exelby - Offlimits to any club, should be getting consideration for NHL's rookie team of the year.
4. Tamer - UFA at season end, little to no trade value.
5. Kloucek - Recently acquired, it's far too early to give up on him yet without getting a proper indication on what he can do for this team.
6. Heins - Little to no trade value, decent depth d-man.
8. Kaberle - Offlimits and probably emerged as legitimate top 2 d-man in the NHL.
23. Majesky - First season at the club and I doubt that the thrashers will move him so soon, especially after using a high 2nd round pick to acquire him.
25. Sutton - Offlimits, his absence has been certainly been missed by the team.
36. Tjarnqvist - Is having a good season so I think that we should definately shop him and he may bring in a decent return.
38. Tremblay - Trade bait but I feel that the thrashers will only let him go if they bring in an offensive d-man, whether will be someone like Foster from the minors or a player from another team such as Tarnstrom remains to be seen.
39. Grand-Pierre - Has played well but I still think the thrasher would prefer him playing at forward rather than on d. Very good depth player to have around regardless.
40. Sellars - Will never make the NHL again.
43. Weaver - ditto, won't be back next season as he is an UFA.
46. Ustrnul - Still needs more time in Chicago.
47. Foster - ditto, but is progressing well.
50. DiPenta - No future at the club despite an impressive stint in Atlanta at the end of last season.
52. Coburn - Top prospect and one that we have sorely lacked on d.
Nikulin/Enstrom/Nummelin - Euro players that i don't know much about.

The Terrible Twin Towers of Turnover*:
Trembles and Tames

Dump them. Dump them. Dump them.

Tjarnqvist is a good player because he has LEARNED defense under the guidance of Bob Hartley. Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre is a pleasant surprise (then again, he said he wanted to play D all along). Keep Luc at D! We need he and Sutton to move the puck forward. Kabs rox. Majesky rules. X is frightening.

So...

That's it. Dump *T5.

Is that redundant?

I agree with your assesment. Of the two I think Tamer has more value to the team as a 7th d-man, but Tremblay would probably, due IMO solely to the age difference between the two, have the more value on the market.

When the d corps gets healthy I hope to see those two in the press box or on their way out of town. I just have this sick feeling that Hartley likes them too much to let them go, especially Tremblay. Lets hope DW puts his trading cap on and squeezes something out of those two that can help the team.
