Good deal. Dumps Tarnstrom (although I was happy with his play). Helps Howson which I don't mind, and Glencross has shown reasonable performance. Paves the way to move some other guys like Sanderson. Start dumping dead weight.
well tarny was the last guy id figure theyd trade due to his family situation
so...... this turn of events is great news because it means they might be willing to trade reasoner again
Isn't this kind of a strange time to trade an experienced dman when Souray has been freshly placed on the IR?
I think it was done to get Grebeshkov in the lineup. With Souray out:
Pitkanen-Staios
Gilbert-Smid
Grebeshkov-Greene
I actually like this trade as it sounds like Glencross is a somewhat physical player and he has chipped in some decent offence this year as well. It also never hurts to add a Calgary killer...
I wasn't a fan of Tarnstrom so not sad to see him go. Glencross is a 4th line guy though, didn't acquire anything of significance but I like it at the end of the day that we dumped Tarnstrom for a young 24 year old forward who can chip in on the 4th line for next year.
Doesn't make sense acquiring a forward who has shown very little.
Might as well have kept him around until the deadline, and asked for a 3rd or 4th rounder.
What? trade for a 3rd or 4th rounder who will probably never play. At least this guy is a flesh and blood NHL player. He is currently better than Reasoner, Thoresen, Stortini, Jaques, Pouliot, Brodziak, and he can play in the next game. This is a good deal for a guy that was not even in the lineup on a consistant basis. Probably a good deal for both sides.
I wonder if Glencross will drop the gloves from time to time. It would be nice to have some who can actually throw punches in a fight without putting their health in jeopardy.
I really like Dicky T but for some reason MacT never seemed to care for him. So I hope he does really well for the Jackets. He is a good and deserves the playing time.
Glencross has 51 hits in 36 games. So he is definitely physical and we could use some more of that.
I almost wonder now since Tarnstrom has been in the press box a lot of the Oil might send someone down to help out Springfield in their playoff push. Otherwise it does not make a lot of sense unless Lowe took Moreau's comments to heart that we do not have enough hustle or hitting.
I suspect there is an element in there of Lowe doing Tarnstrom a favour by trading him now instead of waiting for the deadline.
That was my thought too. Especially with Tarnstrom needing a contract for next year, assuming he wants to stay in North America. Maybe it was like, "Hey, thanks for signing with us when no one else would, sorry it didn't work out, maybe Columbus can make the playoffs for you."
