Duvie on Re-Entry Waivers

http://blog.dispatch.com/cbj/

Quote:
If another NHL club claims Westcott, they'll pick up half of the remaining money owed to him per his contract. The Blue Jackets will pay the other half. That's about $2.03M per club through 2009-10.
Something is about to happen.

that's what i was talking about yesterday, i asked when was duvie going to be put back on re-entry waivers and nobody said much. i figured that was too much to pay somebody that isn't on the jacket future plans. this is getting interesting, with shelley's pay off the books and now duvie pay off the books and hopefully howson sees how nash plays with a real centerman and gets us somebody and make a real run at the playoffs before next weekend it becomes impossible and we are out of it.

Ok so I get the point of trying to get rid of him, and part of his salary but why now.

Obviously they arnt bringing him up because half of our team is defensemen right now.
We arnt close to "the cap".
So are we trying to clear sum salary for our self-imposed cap?
Are we realing making that big of a trade?

i think the crunch don't have big prospects in the d-end and so duvie isn't helping out there and he is making a chunk of change for a guy that's out of the jackets longterm plan. i guess? and lets hope its a BIG trade.

I don't care what your budget is, if you can cut that cost by half, you do it. He's not in the plans.

And I don't think he'll get claimed this time either.

what happens if duvie isn't claimed? we buy him out and he's not part of the nhl? or he gets a nice seat at blue jacket games for the rest of the season?

Looks like they are hoping someone will claim him. I hope someone bites.

Interesting, as this leaves Syracuse with 5 d-men. It leaves us with 9, if he doesn't get claimed.

Curious move.

You can leave him in the minors if he clears re-entry you dont have to call him up, if I remember correctly.

Maybe, but he'd have to go through waivers again before being eligible to play for Syracuse again.

Maybe. I could be wrong but the Waivers/Re-Entry waivers only makes them eligable to be assigned to AHL/NHL. You can waive someone without assigning/recalling them.

I could be wrong but im pretty sure.

There are defense-starved teams in the playoff hunt that would take a chance on Duvie. I bet he'll be snatched by Washington or Atlanta.

I'd love to see someone snag him, but maybe this move is just to put a puck moving d-man in the roster until Tarnstrom is ready?

What kind of center would Duvie, OKT, and Malholtra get us?

I'm with Darr-- I'm guessing there is some informal agreement not to claim Westcott so that he can be packaged in a bigger trade.

I don't understand all this talk about trading Nash in other threads. IMO, Howson should trade away some depth for a top 6 center. I tried to pick some expendable players from a Cbus perspective that might have some value on other teams (puck moving D-man, faceoff/PK specialist, and hard hitting prospect D-man). Maybe I was being too greedy.

Agreed, but not what Cbus needs for a playoff run.

Yes, you are being too greedy. You don't get a #1 center with 3rd/4th line guys.

No, not really - that package wouldn't interest many teams. You have included a d-man who is currently on re-entry waivers, an unproven young d-man, and an overpaid veteran center. OKT is the only guy I can see other teams having an interest in.

I guess so. The more I look at this team from Howson's perspective, the more I realize how much trouble he is in. There is no tradable talent for him to work with. It's unfortunate that 1st rounders like Picard and Brule haven't developed as fast as they should have. Those are the kind of prospects that should be able to get you some proven talent in a trade but their value just isn't high enough.
