I think the only thing some of us are surprised about is how one game the offense looks good then out of nowhere it sucks but looking at the roster it's not hard to see why..we have too many old or slow forwards, and we traded one of our few fast guys, in McDonald for a slow old guy in Weight..that sums up our team.
I don't think the team needs fast forwards like McDonald anymore. Or at least they didn't. Now that Selanne's back they do again for the rest of this year. But probably just this season.
But I wrote a long post about it earlier. By replacing Selanne with Bertuzzi, the Ducks were intentionally moving away from a speed type scoring line to a cycling, puck possession line. That's why Bertuzzi never worked with McDonald. And if you look at the AHL, we don't have fast type guys in the pipeline anyways to fill into that kind of line. Basically speedy guys who can't forecheck would be wasted on our team, and it would be relatively more expensive (asset-wise) to try to make a line like that. Weight fills in much better with forecheckers, the only problem is we don't have a grind type goalscorer to go with him.
I keep harping on my pet lines, but I'm really interested in seeing Kunitz-Getz-Selanne and Bert-Weight-Perry. I think the 1st line could be very good with some speed, and the 2nd line could work because Perry can score on Bertuzzi and Weight's passes. The only problem is that 2nd line is pretty weak defensively.
