Is Tarnstrom on the No Fly list or what?

Anyone out there tell me why he is still up in Canada playing pond hockey while waiting for his papers?

Seriously though, what is keeping him from coming from a Canadian team to an American team, I don't think I'd ever heard of this before in my few years following hockey or when I was following baseball back in the Jurasic age.

M

I believe he has to get authorization from Sweden and the US before he can play here. Not sure who's dragging their feet on this one though.

What I don't understand is why can't he come to Columbus. He can't practice with the team, let alone play, until his visa issues are cleared up but there shouldn't be anything stopping him from coming to Columbus and at least starting to get established.

Beech is having the same problems in Pittsburgh which makes no sense because this is the third US team he's been on this year

I asked the same thing about Tarnstrom last night in the GDT. You'd think there'd be some arrangement that would be made in advance between the NHL and the US, Canada & whichever other country the player was from that would take care of the immigration issues.

Tarnstrom has his tickets to come here over the weekend but then Skybus cancelled the route.

Actually not.
If I recall correctly, Novotny couldn't find his passport.

Maybe we should start hiring Mexicans, they'd get here faster.

I don't know, Gomez is making quite a bit this year.

His US work visa was probably voided when he was picked up by Vancouver. So now he has to go through the entire process again.

Assuming the worst (this thing drags on), would Tarnstrom be eligible to play during our three-game swing through eastern Canada Feb 19-23?

ah...these were in the pre "passport" days when you just needed a birth certificate (in all honesty...it was only like 4-5 years)

i would like to see what Tarnstrom could do sooner rather than later....

Wouldn't you think he'd already have authorization though considering like at least 70% of Edmonton's games are played in the US already anyway??

Regardless of where he actually does his work, he's based in and works for a Canadian company. Now, he's in effect changing jobs to work for an American company. So while he had authorization to be employed by a Canadian company and work in the US and Canada, no I don't think he's authorized to be employed by an American company and work in the US and Canada. If he was, he would have been playing last night.

It's the same situation that a colleague of mine went through on a project we worked together. He's a native of Peru, living in the US and our project was in Mexico. He was subject to Mexican immigration policies that pertained to Peruvian citizens and vice versa. Just like Tarnstrom is subject to US immigration policies that pertain to Swedish citizens and vice versa.

Tarnstrom's work visa allows him to work in Canada and visit the US. He now needs a work visa to allow him to work in the US and visit in Canada. And correct, since Glencross is a Canadian citizen he doesn't have to go through this crap. I read it normally takes 7-10 days to get through the red tape.
If the NHL is involved he will be able to make the April 6 vs St Louis.

Glencross already played his first game with Edmonton. Had a decent fight, too.
