I am the first one to follow Yogi's adage that "you are not out of it until you are out of it", but one would be foolish to ignore the roller coaster season we have all endured this year. Veteran leadership?... Feds less productive than last, still injury prone; Modin....will he ever be healthy this year?; Vybs?.... doing a good imitation of the Invisible Man; Peca....Where is the guy that started the season?; Foote....Still taking bad penalties and worrying more about the fans booing than his teams performance; Nash.... more inconsistent than a Mexican jumping bean; Norrena.... reenacting the Bonnie and Clyde death scene in the net. Younger players underperforming....Brule, Chimera, Fritsche, Tollefson, Klesla and Malhotra.
Now that I have emptied my anguish baggage, I will still be rooting for the CBJ against Washington clinging to the small chance that we might turn this around and be a playoff contender.... Bartender pass the scotch and some Prilosec!
Who's whining? This is the team I follow and I know how this team has played in the past and are currently playing. And I say YES, the season is over, put a fork in us.
Why? For 2 reasons:
1. If you can not score at least 3 goals a game in the "New" NHL, then you are not going to make it. We can not score 3 or more goals on a consistent basis and never have.
2. To make the playoffs, we can loose no more than ~10 (at most 11) games going forward. We have DET 5 and NAS 2 more times this year. That is a minimum of 6 loses at best, realistically 7. That leaves 3 - 4 loses in the other 21 remaining games.
I have following this team since day 1, even though there is a new culture surrounding this team they have not shown me anything that indicates they are able to make it to the next level, period. I am not whining, just stating the facts. If the people looking through rose colored glasses can post, then the people that know the facts can post as well.
Until this team can prove me wrong on the 2 facts above, they will be no better than they are now or ever have been.
We've tried being hard to post against but it takes its toll over a long season.

We'll keep you and trade Robert to the Oilers board, sound good to everyone?
I've made one post in this thread, a simple agreement with the thread starter. Geez, talk about following the corporate line in the office.
Jaxfan45's comment sums it up, I suppose that poster needs to traded as well just because there was no fear in stating the truth.

I was just kiddin with ya Robert, I love my fellow Zherdev supporters, all 2 of us.
Zherdev is the #1 player on the Jackets right now. Anybody who dislikes Zherdev at this point needs help.
And I'm ready to call us out of it right now. I had a long post typed out defending why we're still just barely in it, but then I started looking at the standings and seeing that every team has games-in-hand on us except for the Stars and the Ducks. We're 4 points out of 8th and our only hope is that we run a 7- or 8- game streak to leapfrog the pack. And I don't think this team has the fortitude for it.
I love my Jackets, and I'll watch every game until the end of the season. But it's time to pack it in for this year and start looking forward to next season where we can get some of the young'uns up here full time and start developing some cohesiveness.
Speaking of cohesiveness, I see Hitch has shuffled the lines on us again

Make that 3. I never gave up on Z, even last yr. he was the best passer on the team if nothing else. Robert only wants what we all want, success instead of suck less. It is just so vexing that this team is just now taking baby steps compared to the Wild. BABY STEPS FOR AN EIGHT YR. OLD!

Yes, but it's not totally emotional with me as some what to make it appear. It's attempting to suggest fixes for what appears to be a "broken bike" to often-instead of just looking at it. And ya, it's approaching 7 years without the playoffs, that's to long, way to long.
wasn't that to win the cup? not make the playoffs?
I thought that as well but wasn't sure.... probably. One out of three chances to make the playoffs at this point is a pretty good guess. If we can win four or five out of the next six the odds will go up a bit. There's no room for making excuses or crying now, we are on the bubble and losing the last three (two at home) is the reason.
The Jackets should have played better in the last three games based on the significance of our history. They have a slight chance to make up for it, I hope they do.
its nice to THINK youre in the playoff hunt, but truth is....
it aint gonna happen.....we need to keep the good parts and flush the
crap in the summer, which really might be half the team
someone, I forget who, earlier last week suggested maybe going so far as to getting rid of all the guys (except Nash, Zherdev and Leclaire) that have been here since the lockout. Maybe.
