Tony M on 990 just said that the main prospect that teams are calling the Habs about is Emelin, and they want Higgins too.
This tells me one thing: We need to see Emelin in North America as soon as possible. How often do teams specify a prospect who might never come overseas as a component in a trade for a guy like Hossa unless said prospect is very, very impressive?
As for Higgins for Hossa...I'd do it if Gainey has it on good authority that Hossa would re-sign. If there are no guarantees, no way in hell.
do you guys think ryder, halak, prospect max pacioretty and a 1st rounder is too much for hossa?
To be honest i'd rather offer this than Emelin + Higgins + pick (??) although i'm pretty sure that the Trashers would prefer the EHP package. As someone said they don't need a goalie like Halak as they have Lethonen/Pavelec
The way I understood Marinaro was that Emelin's name keeps coming up, while Higgins was speculation. McGuire was talking about what teams would give up this year, and it seemed he was suggesting that the market may not be what it was.
Star players would attract a pick/ a prospect, or one of those 2 with a player but not all 3. Again, just speculation though.
Considering the cost of players like Ryan Smyth and Keith Tkachuk last year, Hossa won't come cheap.
There was no Higgins traded in last year's rental deals.
Last year, the best returns were combinations of several draft picks, AHL players, non-AHL prospects and lower-level NHL players.
Hossa is good. But Higgins is out of the question. He's our future Bob Gainey, and already is showing more scoring ability than Bob ever had, and more proven scoring results than anyone that got traded for Forsberg, Tkachuk or Smyth.
Nope. Chipchura is a future captain, a beast on the boards, untapped offensive potential and the player that will be key in us winning the cup in the future.
I am high on Chips, and I agree that he has the POTENTIAL to be what you say......BUT.......I would pull the trigger on a 1-for-one deal, or Chips plus a 3rd (i.e. equivalent to Balej plus a 2nd for Kovalev).
However, this means no first-round picks, no Emelin.
Forsberg and Smyth are proven playoff players. That is why their value was so high last year, even though Hossa is an elite player he has not really proven himself in the playoffs and i don't think he will draw as much as Forsberg did and Smyth was totally overpaid for by the Islanders.
