Yes.. take out Pacioretty and put in Emelin.

Pacioretty is what this organization has needed for so long, he won't be traded.

This tells me one thing: We need to see Emelin in North America as soon as possible. How often do teams specify a prospect who might never come overseas as a component in a trade for a guy like Hossa unless said prospect is very, very impressive?

As for Higgins for Hossa...I'd do it if Gainey has it on good authority that Hossa would re-sign. If there are no guarantees, no way in hell.

NO WAY, NO WAY, NO WAY does a GM give up a player they have invested 6 years in developing in return for a player he might get for only 3 months.

NO WAY.

Bob, don't be sucked in. Even in last year's overpriced derby, NO ONE gave up a Chris Higgins for a rental.

OFF THE TABLE!

They want Emelin for their non-AHL prospect? Fine.

They want a young, cheap roster player? Gorges or Lapierre. OR they can have any TWO Hamilton players, excluding Chipchura, Halak and Price.

A first round pick? Ok, but a 3rd round has to come back. The third round could be forfeited if Hossa re-signs with the HAbs.

They don't need Halak. Lehtonen is young and they also have Pavelec (spelling?) who is young and played a couple of games with them this year and has some potential.

I think Emelin going going to be a gem...
And I also think he WILL come over maby as early as next season!...

Don't think I really want to trade Higgins...

Emelin, 1st in 08, and Maxwell and/or Grabovski/White?

+ hopefully Gainey will be able to package Ryder for someone eles's 1st, or maby and early second.

Would anyone trade Chipchura if it meant us getting Hossa?

No

To be honest i'd rather offer this than Emelin + Higgins + pick (??) although i'm pretty sure that the Trashers would prefer the EHP package. As someone said they don't need a goalie like Halak as they have Lethonen/Pavelec

The way I understood Marinaro was that Emelin's name keeps coming up, while Higgins was speculation. McGuire was talking about what teams would give up this year, and it seemed he was suggesting that the market may not be what it was.

Star players would attract a pick/ a prospect, or one of those 2 with a player but not all 3. Again, just speculation though.

Nope. Chipchura is a future captain, a beast on the boards, untapped offensive potential and the player that will be key in us winning the cup in the future.

There was no Higgins traded in last year's rental deals.

Last year, the best returns were combinations of several draft picks, AHL players, non-AHL prospects and lower-level NHL players.

Hossa is good. But Higgins is out of the question. He's our future Bob Gainey, and already is showing more scoring ability than Bob ever had, and more proven scoring results than anyone that got traded for Forsberg, Tkachuk or Smyth.

Isn't Hossa a RW? Why are you all slotting him in on the left side?

You don't get 100pt 2-way scoring wingers very often. He's also only 28 I believe.
Ok so you give him 8M then how do you resign the rest of the team? People like Komi etc?

I am high on Chips, and I agree that he has the POTENTIAL to be what you say......BUT.......I would pull the trigger on a 1-for-one deal, or Chips plus a 3rd (i.e. equivalent to Balej plus a 2nd for Kovalev).

However, this means no first-round picks, no Emelin.

Forsberg and Smyth are proven playoff players. That is why their value was so high last year, even though Hossa is an elite player he has not really proven himself in the playoffs and i don't think he will draw as much as Forsberg did and Smyth was totally overpaid for by the Islanders.

There's no way I'd want to give up Higgins for a rental, no way.

Of course. Hossa is well worth it. We would have two top 10 RW

Higgins for a rental though is a little bit different. IF Hossa was to be re-sign (100% sure before the trade). I guess I could deal with Higgins being gone.
