Record wise, yes they are.

They have a few solid kids but they're still statistically the "worst" team in the league.

This is the "zomg! Kopitar had six points in two games! That means he'll produce... 246 points in a season!!!" logic. And if you believe that 2 games that tips in favour of something from such a tiny sample as 7 games means anything conclusive, you're out to breakfast, lunch and dinner. When you've studied statistics, you'll understand why. What does beating Rangers playing like crap, Islanders in a huge slump, an unstable Buffalo team that played horribly or a Toronto that is probably the second worst team in the league prove? Nothing, any team in the league of mediocrity can beat a team in a slump and LA has been lucky enough to hit most of them on their eastern tours. Los Angeles is a copy of Tampa Bay Lighting, with worse offense. I would gladly switch LA with Tampa Bay if I could.

But hey, if keeping such illusions makes your day float by faster, by all means. Dream on.

Sean Avery didn't speak to the media after the game

Quote:
Avery had said at the morning skate that his coaches in LA, Andy Murray and current boss Marc Crawford, were not as "smart" as Renney. But it was Avery who went goofy. He committed two silly penalties eight minutes apart in the first period. And then in the second, he committed an unpardonable defensive zone giveaway that led directly to the LA goal at 9:18 that boosted the lead to 3-1.

The antagonist did score himself from in front to bring the Rangers within 3-2 late in the second, but was benched for most of the third, getting on for only three shifts until he was sent out to penalty-kill with under two minutes to go.

It would have been interesting to hear from Avery, but no such luck. The winger was gone before the locker room was opened. Not cool. Not cool at all

Last night's performance must have been what Sather meant when the Rangers brief called Avery "a detriment".

Well, the Kings definitely have some young talent on the team. On the other hand, it's not all that hard to win when the other team is constantly turning over the puck and making stupid mistakes.

Meh. You reap what you sow. Onward and upward, hopefully.

Last night loss is another proof of importance of HBO line. This team is pretty weak without them. What's Betts status?

.

Great game guys. Awesome way to ride that energy of a 3 game winning streak against team all above you ni the standings

This team should have made that very very inexperienced team look lost last night.

They are without their top goal scoring threat in Brown, without their leader on Defence in Blake and they come into the Garden and pretty much own the place.

Aside from decent 2nd period where the Rangers were shooting from everywhere, the Kings were in no danger of losing last nights game.

Unbelievable effort last night. Whoohooooooo......

He's like Malik in that, if you're going to play him, you have to be prepared to deal with these kind of consequences. This IS currently the standard for the 6th spot on defense, which is why these "rumors" and "proposals" for anything other than drastic help on the blue line defy any kind of logic.

Good game by LA and great game by J-Labs. I was always a fan of his I'm glad he got a chance to really play in the NHL somewhere. Gotta admit though, even I'm surprised he's been able elevate his game to this level.

Teams coming home from a road trip, no matter how successful, often flounder in their first game back home. It's no big deal. Coming out flat against Anaheim would be inexcusable.

Professional writers over the age of 12 in one of the largest markets in the world should have an ability to come up with phrases other than "not cool".

Poor Larry is down in the dumps. Sounds like he just got turned down to go to the prom.

Not having Holly is not an excuse for every player coming out like they were the best team in the league.

Avery not clearing the puck...Frolov making 2 guys look like infants...Struds struggling to move the puck from the boards.
Lazy mistakes from a team that cannot afford to be lazy.

The only good thing about this game, was that Lundqvist really looks like he is back to his best.

Though your point is vaild, it's still unacceptable for a team that's fighting for a playoff spot.

On the bright side the Isles lost. The bad is that they lost to the same Ducks team that the Rangers play tomorrow night.

OK, didn't see the game, but this is what I have to say. Three great wins on the road from this team, they come and face one of the worst in the league on home ice and crap the bed........AGAIN!! This is why I'm not exicited about this team and have lost some interest in them, they can never get a nice winning streak going, EVER!!!! A glorious oppurtunity to get 2 easy pts and they fail, P A T H E T I C

Ducks 6
Rangers 1

Also missed half the season, and was probably playing hurt about 10 games too, he's the heart of the team, can't say he's been a disapointment at all.

Avery hasn't shown any "heart" since the beginning of the season. If he's too hurt to be playing the way he's supposed to then he should sit. He hasn't gotten under anyone's skin since before he got hurt. He has 4 points since coming back and the last two games he took some really stupid penalties and made some very bad mistakes (one of which directly led to a goal). Against the Canadiens, the announcers pointed out on each PK how he was completely out of position on the first two Canadien goals and how he was out of position on the PS play too.

I know we all love Avery when he plays the way we've come to see him play over the past year, but lately he's been a shell of his former self. He either needs to step up or be a man and sit and fully recover.

It would also be helpful if someone explained to him that, while he is skilled, he does not possess world class skills and maybe, just maybe, he could occasionally make the simple play instead of trying to do something fancy.

Which is why I still think that if the top Hartford defensemen can get healthy, can they truly be worse than either Malik or Strudwick?

As for the game, there is simply no excuse. Not for Renney. Not for the team. Absolutely no excuse for Renney not to have had this team ready and no excuse for the players for playing the first period like they wanted to avoid contact, hard work and the corners at all costs.
