You can't really go by the standings at this point as we are a game down until Saturday. They have played 70 games to our 69. IF we pick up two points we will go ahead of Nashville and be three ahead of Stl. leaving us tied (though we would lose the tie breaker) with Calgary.

This is a horse race that will end up with four teams being within four points of each other and I reckon that possibly two or more of them could go to tie breaker as well. 12 games remaining to find out.

We have 13 games left not 12 you made a mistake, but i was never going with the standings. I said that before the game and i said it after. It didnt matter to me who won as long as none won in OT. I know we can finish in atleast 6th place, so i'm not ready to start rooting for the preds or flames when there playing the blues. I know maybe it's wrong, but as long as we keep winning we keep getting points.

OK. I was merely making a general observation and not really commenting on your post so much.

On our standings to all...

Edmonton lost in OT tonight giving them 71 points. We are 77 going into tomorrows game with the slags. Here is the rest of our schedule.

We face the slags four times (including tomorrow). We face the Flames Twice. We face the Oils twice. We face the Things, the Nuckleheads, the Mickey Mouses, the Rob Blake fan clubers and the Blueys all one time before the end of the season.

We face the Slags and then the Mickey Mouse hockey hour next. After that it is the Bluey's and then the schedule gets hard. In other words. It is going to take our best hockey of the year to gain the 14 points we need to make the playoffs (giving us 91 points) and of them 14, we are going to have make at least 5 of them wins or we can forget it. If you look the other teams schedules you will see that we have it the worst and our best chance to make it would be for the Preds to go off their hunt as I reckon them as the weakest of the teams we are competing with judging by how they have played of late.

The Flames have been dead solid, as have Blueys and the Oilstains. I don't reckon the Oil to make it and if I am right, that leaves them other thee in the running.

Go and have a look at each of thier scheds like I did 25 games ago and the way they have been playing and you might come to the conclusion like I did that at the end, if we are lucky, there will be three teams within one or two points of each other and we will be one of them.

We will have to beat the Slags at least twice along with the Flamings and the Oilspots at least once in order to make it.

Go lads and get them points!

I second that.

We have games against the Blues, Sharks, Red Wings and the Oilers ... all at home. The game against the Blues is an absolute MUST-WIN. Actually, every one of those games is a must-win.

Hey guys, just over from the oilers board. I thought I'd post this here also because the oiler's games with the kings will either destroy us or give us berth again. BTW, we're not done yet!!
----------------------------------------------------------------

Well, after last night (14th), I crunched the numbers:

LA is in 8th, they have 79p in 71 games, projected 91.2p in 82 games
Edmonton, therefore probably needs 92 to make the playoffs
We need 18 more points, 9 more wins, and we only have 10 games left

If we were to lose only once in the last 10 games we would have a good chance of making the playoffs. BUT, we play the Kings twice more, two wins makes up 8 points in the standings (assuming LA would have won otherwise)

Just assuming we play LA the next two games (for simplicity), if we won both games, the playoff cut line is reduced to 89 points (both st. louis and la would now have 89 projected points over 82 games now), and we'd only have to win 7.5/our last 10 games

If we only win once against LA, the projected cut for the playoffs would be LA at 91 points, so its the same as the first scenario, where we'd have to win 9/10, only in this case we'd have one one already, as well as lost one, so instead of winning 9/10, we'd have to win 8/final 8

Therefore:
If we beat LA both times, we need to win only 5.5 more times out of the final 8 games
If we lost once to LA, and win one, we have to win all of our remaining games
If we lose both times to LA its over (can only afford one loss in 10 games, and this would be two losses)

Edit: of course, if anyone goes on an extended winning or losing streak it all changes

Of course, if anyone needed another reason to hate the bleeding ancient scat wings, they LOST today to the Flames. The Oilers won 3-2 over the lowly BJ's giving them 76 points. The lousy stinking loser Cantnucks let the Preds have a tie tonight giving them 80 points. Even IF we were to tie tonight we would be out of the playoffs with the Oilers looking us down our throats.

As of now if Stl beats us they will go to 80 pts.
The Flammins Beat the Scat Wings for 84 pts.
The Preds have the 8th playoff spot with thier tie against the Cantnucks.

In my predictions of our last 23 games I have us losing to the Blues tonight, but, I also had the Rubbish Wings beating the Flames (probably threw the game so as to not have to face us in the playoffs) and the Nuckleheadhunters beating the Preds.

I stand by my 86 to 89 points for us of a few weeks ago but still fancy us a shot at the playoffs unless we don't get any help from the rest of the "elite" teams.

Bloody rubbish wings.

No love from the "good" teams yet again. But of course you can bet they'll all bring their "A" games when playing the Kings.

...but then skoula put it right into the goalie's logo on a breakaway with no time left. we are VERY lucky that st. louis didn't win it in overtime. they had several chances, including tkachuk all by himself right in front.

The Kings need atleast a point tomorrow night, 2 would be huge. Remember because of our lack of wins, a tie in the final standings does us no good.

Edmonton is starting to scare me. Wow, if we lose tommorrow and Edmonton beats Nashville on Friday then Edmomton will be only a point, behind with us having played one game less.
We have 2 games in hand against STL and that is huge. We have a game in hand against everyone else so were in pretty good shape. I still think Nashville will be the team staying out, but i want it to be STL. We still have a shot at Dallas, but were going to need about 94-96 to reach them. We need to get about 91 points to make the playoffs. Which is 12 out of 20 remaining points. Time to play the Sharks

I agree Lucky. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending) when I went through the schedule a few weeks ago and came up with our ending the season with 86 to 89 points, I had us losing against the Sharks and the Blues. (Both times Sharks) so, if things go as I reckon they will, we are still on pace for the 86 points I reckoned we would end up with. (unless we were to get new players who made a significant impact on the team or Roman/Huet got significantly better and went on a big hot streak like JS did last year.) There are scenarios that I looked at that would have us at 91 points but, with Andy benching Marty and Roman coming back and playing so poorly as well as Miller coming back to struggle, I will have to survive on the faith that the lads will pinch one off and get us to the cup.

I do though, have to say that if we don't make the playoffs that, all things considered, this season could have been well worse and that we have seen some great things happen this year.

The bad, Allison and Deader don't look like they will be Kings anytime soon if ever again. Ziggy going down. My frustration at how poorly I reckon Andy does at messing about with lines and his ideas of who needs motivation and such along with how he has handled Frolov from the jump. Ebell has had a bloody rubbish season and in fact been so awful that I hope he is moved. When we had no team depth, he looked brilliant, now that we are chock full of grand third line talent, he is only average. I would rather have seen him moved along at the deadline with Modry (another awful bit) then see him killing us now.(truly though, I know nothing of what I am talking about so..) Thats all for me that were bad.

The good, Gleason became a stud who, when left in the line up shows he is a real top four or better defenceman and HE IS BLOODY 20 YEARS OLD!!!! WOOHOO!

Frolov should end the season with 50 POINTS!!!! A grand accomplishment when you consider that he were only seeing 12 mins per game for the first third of the season. Instead of pulling a Chistov, he proves his self to be a young star.

Avery, he started as a liability and ended up as the best at what he does in the game. He is a dandy of a pest who could end up with 30 points and didn't play every game either. AWSOME!!!!!

Corvo, he started off as our favourite player to hate. Off the ice, he appears to have done the lowest thing any man can ever do. He paid his due both to the law and the person he is said to have struck and then served a triffle of a penalty from the team. I reckoned that he would fold like a tent after that but instead, he became a clutch scoring threat who, when he isn't paired with the male escort Modry, is a very good offencive defenceman who can QB the PP when needed and score clutch goals. GRAND LAD!!!

Scott bloody Barney!!!! This lad comes back from a broken back who, after missing thee years, steps in and proves his self to be a grand young player. WELL DONE!

We got to see some very nice play by D Greb and I can't wait for next year when he is on the team. When he were on, he were brilliant. Unfortunately, he were paired with Modry for his entire stay (one of my Andy problems) and in a game where Modry went -4 Grebs couldn't be Superman and Andy sent him back down. Fine enough as we are over stuffed at the spot for now. Grebs is the real deal and will show it next year. WOOOHOO DGREB!!

DT added Anson Carter,Martin Straka, Nathan Dempsey and Jeff Cowan during the season and with the exception of Carter so far (which I am not sold on him being awful yet) we have seen them do very very well. DT were always said to be "on the golf course" well, he proved that bit wrong. Not all a homerun but, we will see how it goes. Good enough.

Huet has proven to me that he belongs in the NHL and that he is a very good back up goalie and could, possibly be a number one if we were healthy and all on the same page.

Other than that, I think there were allot of fun and good things that happened and I would also add that if you take a look at our farm and our prospects out there that all you can say is WHOOOOHOOOO!!!!!

So, lets go and do whatever it takes for the rest of this year to win the cup. Then, if we end up with the 86 to 89 points that I have been saying we will, we can look at next year with allot of exciting antici

pation.

All of the sudden, Edmonton has come out of nowhere to join the race. (1 point back of the Kings, 2 points back of 8th.)

Man, this is a weird situation.. the Oilers are only one point back of the Kings but I'm just having so much darn trouble hoping you guys lose! With all the injuries you've had this season, I can't think of a team more deserving of a playoff position than the Kings. I'd personally prefer the Oilers to leap frog Nashville and St. Louis and miraculously claim a playoff birth but I think the Oil have a better chance of passing Nashville and LA.. In any event, good luck down the stretch!

Thanks, Cerebral... It would be nice if both our teams could make it in... but yeah, I was looking at the games left tonight, and it looks like it's got to be one or the other (if either... ). I'm waiting for St. Louis to choke, they've done it before, they're so good at it, come on Blues, don't let me down!

For those interested I thought I'd post the list of remaining games through the end of the season... I could have included Calgary, but left them off since our real concern is the three ahead of us.

It looks like Nashville has an easier schedule, except for the last two, but they're both home games. St. Louis has Detroit, and also Nashville, and that's pretty much it. If Nashville could lose three out the last four, it would be very helpful.

The Kings have a nasty little road trip, 4 games in 6 days ending with Colorado.

Obviously, we have to win that game in hand on the Oilers (sorry, Cerebral).

Kings

24 Vancouver (Road)
26 Edmonton (Road)
27 Calgary (Road)
29 Colorado (Road)
31 San Jose
2 Calgary
4 San Jose (Road)

Oilers

26 Los Angeles
28 Phoenix

3 Vancouver (Road)

25 Rangers (Road)
27 Columbus
30 Chicago

3 St. Louis

I think LA deserves all the credit in the world for being in the thick of things this late in the season. I have honestly not seen such a cursed team since....since ever actually.
Impossible to say if either the Oil or the Kings lock up a playoff spot this season, but if we dont, the game last night was a helluva match and sign of the heart on both teams.
Good luck Kings fans

With the loss to the Canucks tonight, it's over. No need for anymore updates in this thread.
