I wouldn't say Hossa has disappeared just yet-

Quote:
In fact, Waddell is still trying to sign Hossa to a long-term contract to stay in Atlanta. Waddell has been negotiating this week with Hossa's Edmonton-based agent Ritch Winter. The Thrashers expect to know by the beginning of next week whether a deal can be reached.

If a deal isn't in place by the beginning of next week, sources say Waddell will shop Hossa to see what he will fetch, but that should not be confused with an absolute commitment to trade him.

I find it harder to believe a GM than a journalist to be honest ...

GM's would say whatever they can to make the rest of the world shut up and leave them alone, just as would do players and agents

Should have had him. He would have been a great guy to include in Hossa proposals!!!!!!!

I wouldnt really say that Hossa has choked in the playoffs. Just look at his stats in the last couple of seasons.....

2001-2002 = 12 games, 10 points
2002-2003 = 18 games, 16 points
2003-2004 = 7 games, 4 points
2006-2007 = 4 games, 1 point (the whole team chocked)

I think he would be a great aquisition and I wouldnt mind sending Higgins the other way if Hossa woul agree to sign. The problem is, if we have Hossa on books for 7 million, then will we have enough money to sign Komisarek, Plekanec, Kost, Streit, etc.

this topic is being beat to death in the other thread...

Even if BG was given permission, do you think Waddel and the agent would go on record by saying, yes he has permission??

Well I did, and they say he doesnt considering how horrible there team is.

Hmm....since he became a good player (first 70+ point season), this is Hossa's playoff record:

GM: 45
G: 13
A: 20
P: 33

Now considering that in these 5 playoff series, his team hasnt made it by the first round in three of them, these are good numbers.

Update: Atlanta GM Don Waddell has denied earlier reports that he was having trade talks with Montreal GM Bob Gainey. “We never even talked about any kind of deal,” Waddell said, as reported in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Recommendation: Waddell was pretty clear on his team's intentions with Hossa: “Teams will call, that’s as far as it’s gone. I won’t allow it to go any further. The No. 1 goal is to still sign him.” For the time being it looks like Hossa will remain a Thrasher. We'll keep you updated.

Plausible deniability......

obviously not, but he wouldn't go on record saying he wasn't either

Yup, just as I said earlier, plausible deniability.... pretty common on a sports market like the NHL....

There's never any truth behind any rumors according to GMs.
Unless its clear a player is unhappy and wants out, but even then, sometimes they play it out as if everything is fine.

Waddell came to Mtl purely on a scouting trip?..i doubt it, thats why they have scouts.

Wadell isn't going to say that he gave Gainey permision even if he did...

aAnd he is probably trying to sign Hossa, but He might also have a deal worked out with bob if that falls through...

Backup plan trading Hossa to the Habs???

Stop kidding yourself about Kessel, he's not going anywhere. The only way Kessel is traded is if the return is a guy like Kaberle. Kessel has huge potential, he's not moving.

OT- Renaud Lavoie said that Rich Winter denied the talks with Gainey about Hossa. I guess he would never be allowed to say the contrary, but it could be also true.

a) he won't be the go-to-guy
b) he'd be flanking Koivu, a playoff warrior
c) if he were to attract the opposition's shutdown unit, the Eastern BloK is opened up; if it's the other way around then he and Koivu will be opened up.

Long story short, the opposition is in a world of Gomer Pyle-esque ****. Hopefully it turns out the same way for them as it did for ol' Gomer.

I just checked Atlanta's schedule for February (since it probably affects at least the timing of possible trade).

Feb 7 Canucks - Thrashers
Feb 9 Lightning - Thrashers
Feb 13 Capitals - Thrashers
Feb 15 Thrashers - Devils
Feb 16 Thrashers - Islanders
Feb 21 Thrashers - Hurricanes
Feb 23 Thrashers - Maple Leafs
Feb 26 Thrashers - Canadiens
Feb 28 Islanders - Thrashers

I would be quite confident that actual trade would not happen before 14th at earliest (after the two extremely important interdivision games by Trashers).

Intresting point, is deadline before or after Trashers - Canadiens game?

Could be quite matchup if the trade actually goes through. (Especially if Higgins is included)

Before... either at 12:00 or usually at 15:00 PM. So, all odds say before the game.
