As a webstandards fanatic and drooling obsessed stalker fangirl of Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Håkon Wium Lie, I am compelled to strenuously and vociferously object to ANY designing of a webpage in Photoshop.
Okay, now that that's out of the way...
1) The top image is nifty and I do like it. Width is probably fine, although I'd try to find some way to throw it together such that it's flexible (which would be quite a trick).
2) The silver "sidebars" do not work for me.
3) I agree with the others who suggest getting rid of the bug. (I would also consider making that menu smaller.)
What you're definitely going to want is photos. Lots and lots of photos. And not just in a "Pictures" section; I mean other images here and there to spice up that content area, because right now it's just blank. (I know, the design hasn't gotten that far yet, but still, it's a thought.
