Why can't the Rangers beat Western Conference teams?

http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbc...0353/-1/SPORTS

Quote:
NEW YORK If the Rangers don't make the playoffs, one of the reasons will be geographical: They are winless against the Western Conference.

The Rangers lost to the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 last night and fell to 0-7-2 vs. the West. They are 27-17-4 against the East.

Only one game remains against a Western Conference opponent: the San Jose Sharks at home in nine days. But by that time, the Rangers (60 points), who are in seventh place in the East one point ahead of Boston might be on the outside looking in.
Plain and simple why can't the Rangers beat the Western Conference teams, is it the style of play?, poor scouting of the Western Conference?, or is it that they have better players than us?

Which Western teams have the Rangers played? Anaheim with Nieds in is no joke, and the Avs are streaky, but when good, they can be dominating. I don't know who else the Rangers have played, though.

Well, maybe because the western teams are all good defense teams?

It doesn't hurt that the rangers team strategy works against a conference that tends to ignore defense, but against teams that focus on defense, it could be a problem

If we were just .500 against West we'd have another 9 points in the standings.

where does that put us in the East? 2nd overall?

Edmonton (OT)
Vancouver
Calgary
Avs (OT)
Minny
LA
Phoenix
Dallas
Anaheim

They played the NW teams on the road, and the Pacific Division teams in MSG.

Without looking up the scores, I seem to recall that the games against Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary, Colorado, and Dallas were all close games we could have won.

The games against Minny, LA, Phoenix, and Anaheim were poor efforts.

I believe each team we play is different, but something that is really sticking out at me is our physical play, we did not play physical against LA and we could not match the physical play the ducks brought on us last night....We need hits, that has been missing most of this season, a passion that used to be carried out by Hollweg and orr, yes they get their hits in, but they have become so focused on defense that their hits are not the same.

I keep thinking and believing that Kaspar deserves a shot, he was not given much of a shot in preseason, I know people won't agree with me, but he's a hitter and he was just getting his game back....

Those are the types of hits we need to change momentum in games...
Those are the types of hits that would help against teams like the ducks.
We need to hit and be more physical!!!!!!!!

Every team on the list had a goalie that on each particular night beat ours. Henke similarly to DiPi (Isles lost to West badly as well) does poorly against unfamiliar shooters.

We need bigger players. Who's going to hit people on this team. Cally, Prucha, Dawes, Gomez, Drury, straka they will pinball off the bigger guys in the league. Prucha already spends enough time on his a$$. We need size to be able to hit.

Thats a beautifully executed hip check. Instead of Tyutin trying to score goals he should just go around doing that.

Maybe I missed my actual point of my post, bring back kaspar, dont throw too many stones at me for saying that, but think of that physical presence and leadership he brings to a team.

And now this doesn't really belong here, but it goes with the physical play part and you all are going to go off on me for this suggestion, but SIGN FORSBERG!!!

the hits we need:

Just to let you know, the Isles are 2-3-3 against the WC this season- two of those three losses coming in the last week. While that is indeed a technically losing record, they still got 7 out of a possible 16 points and are only one point off of being 500 points-wise. I certainly wouldnt call that "losing badly".

The Isles are doing far more of their "losing badly" to the Northeast division... and the Flyers.

The Western conference is better than the East, plain and simple. Even Maloney said that probably only two teams in the East would even crack the top 8 in the West. The west is not only better but much more physical.

The Rangers are too inconsistent and soft to compete against these Western teams.

It is just one of those things that happens in hockey. The Rangers have lost all 8 games to the western teams and yet have beaten the Debbies 5 straight. Stuff like that happens. Does it suck that they have only gotten 2 of a possible 18 points, you bet it does. But i would rather give up those points to the other conference as opposed to your own conference and division.

i think they cant beat them because their not use to their kind of play, or the players to look out for. with a team like the devils who they play multiple times a year they know how to beat them, unlike with the other conference
