NHL'S 10 Most Untouchable Players

Which guys do you think are the most untouchable right now, like if a GM called, he'd get laughed at for even questioning his availability. heres mine.

1. Martin Brodeur
2. Ilya Kovalchuk
3. Rick Nash
4. Nik Lidstrom
5. Roberto Luongo
6. Dan Heatley (the accident kept him out of top 5)
7. Peter Foresburg (injuries kept him out of the top 5)
8. Marc Andre Fleury
9. Jay Bouwmeester
10. Scott Neidermeyer

That's my list, alot of big names arent on there, so if you think you need to make some changes, make your own list.

I agree with most of these names, except I would make one change: Take off Scott Neidermeyer, add Joe Thornton.

Neidermeyer might not even be back in New Jersey next year.

Agree on Thornton, but just to clarify, Niedermayer is RFA this summer. Can't see Lamoriello dealing him sans for an insane offer.

I had Thornton on there originally, but IMO, his comments about retiring cuz of all the clutching and grabbing, got him voted out IMO.

Agree except for:
- Lidström (He might return to Sweden after the season)
- Forsberg and also Näslund (not listed I know)-- see above
- Niedermayer (as already stated by the poster above)

Most untouchable players (not in order)

Martin Brodeur
Ilya Kovalchuk
Rick Nash
Joe Thorton
Roberto Luongo
Dan Heatley
Joni Pitkanen
Jason Spezza
Jay Bouwmeester
Pavel Datsyuk

Basicly all U25 players, who produce on a regular level are untouchable.

Pavel Datsyuk untouchable? Joni Pitkanen?

Puh-leaze. Didn't we hear this with Bryan Berard at one point?

Yes, some kids such as Nash and Kovalchuk are indeed untouchable. But ask any GM in this league, not some armchair GM in here, and they will take guys like Sakic and Naslund ahead of guys like Pitkanen, Datsyuk - yes, even Luongo.

The key is to win, not to win 5 years down the road. With these kids, there's no more a guarentee they will play 4 or 5 years on the same team as many other players. How many players on average play for 1 team for 10 years? Not very many. These young guns are great players, many of them listed here are not untouchable.

(If you put a gun to my head, mind you, my top 5 untouchable players in the league would include Peter Forsberg, Martin Brodeur, Ilya Kovalchuk, Marian Hossa, and Markus Naslund)

Mizral, a player can be "untouchable" for other reason's aswell.

If you pluck out Sundin or Alfredsson from their respective teams, no matter what is coming back in return, im sure that would be pretty disruptive for the roster.

Both player's have strong, long roots in the team, and their absence would lead a real major "shake-up" in the locker room

From this point, I guess you can say that Sundin/Alfredsson and player's alike, are "untouchable"

But on then again, I thought Gilmour and Linden were "untouchable" aswell

Let me explain the method to my madness...the guys on this list are either on contenders, or teams far far far from contending. teams looking to win now, may trade a young star for a vet. and teams that are rebuilding, might trade a vet for a young star.

1. Martin Brodeur- best goalie in the league, he's there unitl their dynasty ends.
2. Ilya Kovalchuk- on a mediocre team, but he is the guy that its built around.
3. Rick Nash- see #2
4. Nik Lidstrom- this one I am having 2nd thoughts about.
5. Roberto Luongo- Florida is gonna be a contender in 5 years, and he's gonna be why.
6. Dan Heatley (the accident kept him out of top 5) see #2
7. Peter Foresburg (injuries kept him out of the top 5) best forward IMO. see #1
8. Marc Andre Fleury- horrible team, but he's gonna be their franchise guy for a long time. see #5
9. Jay Bouwmeester. see #8
10. Scott Neidermeyer. having 2nd thoughts about this choice as well.

So, here a revamped list.
1. Martin Brodeur
2. Ilya Kovalchuk
3. Rick Nash
4. Roberto Luongo
5. Peter Foresburg (injuries kept him out of the top 5)
6. Dan Heatley (the accident kept him out of top 5)
7. Jay Bouwmeester
8. Marc Andre Fleury
9. Marian Hossa
10. Jose Theodore

That's my list, alot of big names arent on there, so if you think you need to make some changes, make your own list.
I think even though Forsberg is usually injured, you still underrate his value to the Avanlanche.. He has more talent then any other player in the league right now and is a true contender for the hart trophy and art ross trophy even though he has missed half the season.

Statistically right now he's on course to tying Nasland in points for league lead.

I think Lidstrom shouldn't be in the top 10, his performance this year hasn't been great compared to his previous year's in the league.

You have an argument there, but at this point of their careers (well Yzerman's anyway) I think that although I donts them getting traded, I dont think they are that high on the list. Im sure Detroit would move an old star with bad knees if the could get a guy back who can not only help now, but help down the road as well. plus the emergence of Dats and Zetterberg have, and the addition of Shanahan, Hull, etc etc etc, would move Yzerman from really untouchable, to relatively untouchable. he nor Sakic would make my 10 though IMO.

One of the top 10 most untouchable players might be Vokoun. He's our best player, makes a little over a million and the kicker...we have absolutely no backup plan if he's gone/injured.

Gaborik? are you kidding me.
salary dispute, horrible numbers since. a Gaborik at full value might sneak on the list, but today's Gaborik can go wait behind today's Mike Comrie. Not to say hed ever be moved. but im sure anyone can think of 10 guys before him.
