Will Lecavalier sign with Montreal after next season?

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20...006/CPSPORTS01

The article is in french, but basically what he says is that Montreal has improved a lot and that because of this players will tell their agents to add Montreal to their list. He is asked if what he will do when his contract is over with Tampa and he basically says ''we're not there yet''.

Enjoy!

We've had 15,000 threads about Lecavalier coming to Montreal in the off season, and every one of them produced the same answer.....He's not leaving Tampa Bay!!!!!

Why would he leave Tampa where there is no pressure on him, no french media attention and where the fans don't care to come play in Montreal with all the extreme pressure, the harsh french media who tear you apart for missing a goal and where the fans boo you if you cost the team a game.

If I was Vinnie, I would stay in Tampa too and go to the beach after every game and practice. Beats the cold winters in Canada.

Only if we trade for him.

What about Ryder and a 2nd?

The irony is that I'm sure even by some stroke of luck he does come to Montreal, he probably wouldn't live up to "expectations", just to spite everyone.

It does make a ton of sense from our POV when you think about it. In 2009 Koivu will likely retire and then Vinny can be our new captain that will lead us to the cup in 2010.

PERFECT.

No, perfect is Koivu winning back to back Cups with us this year and next year, retiring and passing the Torch to Lecavalier to continue the Dynasty.

I think big

Going to Montreal would be if he *wants* to, and in wanting to, would have to make less living back in Montreal due to the heavy tax laws. It can't be a money decision because he'll make less, and it can't be a success decision because he already has a ring (Unless convinced he could win it with the Habs). Therefore, its all about pride, if wearing the CH is still a goal in his life. If it is, it could certainly happen, as he admitted to considering it a few years back (which everyone clings to).

Things are just so good for him, even with Tampa flunking, its hard to see him leaving. However, if the Lightning do tank and get Stamkos, they may try their luck with hoping to build around him instead of Vin.
Plus his St-Hubert BBQ will not be so cold when he makes it delivered!

I agree this cow has been milked dry.

However, Vinny will have half his life left to spend his millions on whatever beach he chooses, drive his Ferrari convertible on whatever sunny road he chooses.

Some people in life have professionnal goals that don't only involve sandals, fast cars, palm trees and "fans" that don't care. Maybe he's one of them.

I would have agreed 100%, but Jacques Demers, who has been Vinny's coach previously, said he didn't think Vinny would stay if Tortorella did.

Call it 99% agreement. I think Tampa will do their darndest to keep him.

Whether he would sign in Montreal if he were to leave Tampa in the first place is a separate question.

I don't think Vinny stays in Tampa. Not saying he's going to Montreal (it would be an awesome career move if everything goes well), but Tampa is one of the worst looking teams in the NHL. They've got no major prospects, no depth, and no chance to win a cup for at least 5 years minimum. The salary cap hurt the Lightning the most I think. They only have 3 stars and the rest is mediocre at best.

lol, you know they're under the cap by 6 mil and they're shedding a lot of space this offseason, right?

and to say he can play in Tampa where the fans don't care is pretty laughable too.

that being said... if Feaster is in charge when new ownership takes over, Vinny gets whatever he wants.

I should have said "where the population in general doesn't care". Obviously there are fans in Tampa, and good ones.

Impending retirement or not, the end of his current contract should be reason enough for Saku to hit the road. Unless he's willing to stay on at 1 million we'll have zero desire to keep him around.

I'd like to think that Montreal is #2 on Vinnie's list behind Tampa

Stop speculating... both sides!!!

"He's coming to Mtl"

"He's not coming to Mtl"

Nobody knows (not even him) what he'll do in 2 years, so just be patient and wait... both sides!!!!!!!!!!!
