Ugh....Samuelsson just committed about 4 offensive zone penalties withnot a single one called, 2-3 slashes, hit from behind, etc. I was shocked they didn't call a slash when he "stole" the puck.
Great play by Suter to take the body on a pair of streaking Red Wings. He completely eliminated their speed and disrupted the play.
Sweet move by Legwand, leading to a great chance by Radulov!!!
With the Preds looking more like a playoff team, it was clear to me that the refs realized they needed to get us prepared for bogus 5 on 3 penalty kills.... just in case we meet the Sharks again this year.
Awesome game...but I have to say, here's some advice:
When you're in another team's building, and you've just scored to make it 4-2...don't turn around to face the crowd of opposing fans, take off your hat, and point at the logo. You're just going to get laughed at, have things thrown at you, and warrant a chant of "scoreboard."

That penalty was incidential contact and totally screwed up by the referee. The referee that made the call did NOT see the actual contact and therefore the reason for the contact, instead he saw the aftermath of the two players tangled up and made his call based on that. At the time of the contact, the referee had his body turned to center ice as he was transitioning with a big loop towards center ice to skate backwards as the play started to come towards him on the turnover. Arnott too made a quick turn as did the defenseman (Lilja) and they collided because they crossed paths and never saw each other until the last minute.
The same thing happened later in the game when I think it was Mikael Samuelsson or Kris Draper getting killed by DeVries or Bonk at the blueline on a regroup and there was no call because it was simply the result of incidental contact and neither player saw one another.
The call on Arnott was a bad call by the official, but we all know there will be at least a couple of those per game and we need to kill off the PP's we give up.
Great win, we won that game in the 1st period. I was watching NHL on the fly and they were touting the Arnott, Dumont and Rad lines as one the best in the NHL.. even compared them to Spezza, Heatley and Alfredsson! Not sure on that one but they are on fire now. I thought Mason played really well, they really come on strong and had traffic around him all night, he did a good job.
I'm sorry but that officiating was horrid... they wouldn't have even been in the game if not for all the ticky tack phantom calls all night.
Like someone said before, its just the way it is and we'll have to kill 5 on 3's in the postseason if we are going to advance lol
Oh well great win, its always great to beat the redwings.
Arnott penalty in the second was bogus as Slake described. Nichol's penalty during the PK was legit by the standards the league claims to hold. My only beef with that standard is there are still some players that get away with extending their stick horizontally like that.
Funny to hear RW fans complaining about Holmstrom getting 'reputation' penalties. Try having 3-4 players on yout team that get those! Also, the penalties Holmstrom gets called on him don't compensate for the legitmate calls NOT made on other RW players.
You have to hand it to Ken Holland-- he ices a top notch team year after year, cap or no cap. Too bad the fans don't pack their building all year long. Think what a team could do with that kind of gate revenue!!

I couldn't agree more.
I will also say - best game of the year for Mason.
Mason may not have made a star of the night, but Radulov's second goal was the #3 play of the night on On The Fly. Totally should have been #1, but whatever.
Radulov!!!
And Mason, too.
How great was it to see Erat and Peverley on a 2on0! Detroit's D was awful in the first period. I mean Arnott floated a pass to Dumont through a kneeling Lilja.
Preds played great. We were standing up at the blueline and limiting RWs entries! Damn second period we came out asleep but woke up halfway through.
And I've never seen a team complain as much as they do. Every single play someone was whining to an official about something. I think their gums get as much of a workout during the games as they do themselves.
So yeah we were outshot and lost 65% of F/Os but we out-hit them (23-21) and had more than twice the number of takeaways (17-8) and forced them into 10 giveaways to our 5! Way to outwork them Preds!!!
Lidstrom and Zetterberg were both -3.
Now, no letdown on Thursday guys!!!
(what a great night for Nashville sports! Preds get a huge win over RWs and Vandy rolls by 41 over UK!)

oh didnt you know, Detriot has 6 captains and they all get to yell at the refs whenever they feel like it.

Lidstrom is so respected by officiating crews that they completely understand when he doesn't feel like arguing a point and sends a minion to do it instead.
