Tiebreakers - From NHL.com
1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
2. The greater number of games won.
3. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
4. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.

Well, no one can accuse you of being a procrastinator, or at least for this game.

O I'm a procrastinator..

But I rather do this rather than do the three papers that are due on Thursday.

Three papers? What are the subjects of the paper? What's your major?

A week and a half? Pfffft.

On a hockey note..
Anaheim and San Jose are both tied at 1 right now. Detroit has lost their 4th game in a row.

Where do these stats come from? Why are they wrong? (Otter has 9 goals and the Stars have scored 176)

Seriously, I'm not on a fact check mission. I just happened to remember those two.

The Ott stat, ok I accidentally typed in the wrong number. Sorry.

But not sure where you're getting we have scored 176 goals. Unless you're counting the 5 shoot out games we won, which a shoot out goal doesn't count towards your goal total.

Actually we have scored 176 goals according to the Edmonton Journal. They seem to be counting shootout wins as one goal. Which makes sense in that the team who wins a shootout should have one goal added onto their goal totals.

Officially the goal isn't given towards the goal total, and that's what I go off of.

NHL.com doesn't count it. So I won't count it.

Yeah, good luck with that. I thought there might be a chance I could help you out with a topic, but that is clearly not the case. I contemplated broadcast journalism before venturing into public relations, but during the introduction course I was told, "you have the perfect face for radio." My dream of being Katie Couric was no more. Yes, I'm joking about Couric. I like to think I'm just a bit brighter than that, though just as annoying.

Who cares about NHL.com. It should count as a goal. You win the game with the extra "goal" added to your total.

Because NHL.com is run by the NHL. I've never paid attention to it, but it makes since. TSN and everyone that has the Stars at 176 goals just added the score at the end of the game up to get that total. If shootout wins counted as a goal, then every goal scored in a shootout should be counted. Since they aren't, goals scored by a team make since to be the goals scored during regulation or overtime.

Ouch. I was told PR would be a good minor to have so I'll probably end up picking that up.

Exactly.

I'm guessing Doan will be back for this one? Nice little 2 day break for a home-and-home. Guess that's part of the schedule letting up a bit.

Hey, we can't all be pretty faces and contrary to popular thought, Rogaine does not work for everyone.

In PR, you'll learn about media kits, press releases and basic print journalism, among some other items that you would have no use for (i.e. manipulating polls to suit your desired results, media business planning, etc.). The sports broadcasters I have known have used all three of those skills daily. Hopefully though you're a good writer or can develop into one, because PR is highly based on one's writing skill. How I slipped by, well, I don't know.

NHL.com doesn't count it. So I won't count it.

NHL does count it.

Dallas Stars 60 35 20 5 75 176 148 18-9-2 17-11-3 8-2-0

None of the stats from the stats page are the same as the stats in the standings for any team, probably not updated everyday...

Usually I get all the stat trackers from FoxSports.com and they don't include the shoot outs either so it stays at 171.

It doesn't seem to be a big deal it they count them or not. I don't believe they should count them but that is me. IMO if NHL.com doesn't count them I would go with that but no big deal

Two conflicting sets of official stats is confusing.

I wonder which set is used in tie breaking:

"4. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season."

In the Stars case it doesn't matter, today, 5-5 in the shoot out.

Foxssports.com? Lobo...what the hell? I thought you were smarter than that?? This is the same network that brought you the glowing puck. No wonder your stats are off.
