Villeneuve on CKAC just said Gainey is in ''intense'' negotiations with SJ for Bernier. He also said Gainey is studying various other trade scenarios.

With all due respect Marc, you actually believe what Vile-neuve says?

I thought so. But getting Bernier would be pretty nice. righthanded, soft hands and is French... that would shut up some complaints.

If Gainey trades O'Byrne to SJ for Bernier... Then Ron Wilson would litterally have stealed Gainey.

If there is real substance in the idea, should Habs be intrested? O'Byrne would probably be the starting point for negotiations, since SJ would probably be looking for more defensive defenceman.
Let's send them Ryder Dandenault Boullion and Halak for a 2nd rounder and Bernier......

I will not be surprise if Gainey trade with San Jose, I think he have a good relation with Wilson (SJ GM)

San Jose want a defense for sure ! (because of the Redden story) so which player they want from our team ???

IMO, Streit's the only option that makes sense.

yes Bernier would be a good fit. he has size, pretty good hands, physical, righthanded right winger and has plenty of upside left. i'd much rather Gainey make this type of trade as opposed to giving up the farm for a rental.

I'm glad you're not GM. Bernier is worth no more than Ryder and maybe throw in Dandenault if they'll take his contract.

That depends.... it's not an automatic "No". They could well negociate with either both or one of the two for a contract extention.

And San Jose might just want reinforcement for the POs.

remember, Rivet was a pending UFA.

yeah...but giving up Josh Gorges is different than giving up Steve Bernier IMO.

I totally disagree. I think Halak would be involved in the trade as well for various reasons.

If Halak is also involved there would have to be a 1st or 2nd rounder coming back.
