Lundqvist Contract

Decided to make a poll to see what your guys guess is for Lundqvist's contract..

Since we got 5 days to kill I don't think this'll hurt, and since Zipay and others have reported it's going to be finalized this week most likely, let's look at your opinions of what you actually think it will be, not what you want it to be.

I'd like to see him sign for close to 7-8 years and I hope no less than 5 or 6 years.

Tough to actually select an option on that poll

I think hell get some years staggered so they wont all be the same amount each season.

I think he'll get in the range of

5-6.5 a season

over the course of 5-7 years.

So we are looking at a 30-40 million over the course of the contract.

Some would say more, but his season this year dropped his value a little bit.

I said 5 years $30MM, but it's probably more like 6 @ $33MM.

His value is considerably lower now based on his play this year. And quite frankly - it is a risk for the Rangers to sign him long term. I think it'll be two years for 11 million, and he'll aim to renegotiate from a position of strength when the contract expires.

HL has looked very human this year. I really thought he'd take the next step and establish himself as a perennial top 5 NHL goaltender. He hasn't done that. I could see a 5 yr deal... I hope no more then that. I think he deserves 5 mill a year. I think he'll get just over 6...

My guess is a shorter contract for less money, perhaps 3 Y 18 M.
I'm sure he wants more than 6 M/Y but just hasn't proven his value at that level this season.
On the other hand we should all be very happy that I'm not GM for the Rangers...

Awards:
Now's an interesting time to negotiate. Both sides give in a little. The Rangers offer a contract in good faith and make an offer that's better than his current level of play. Hank comes down a little in his asking price.

His value is low, WHAT? Because he hasen't been superman of late.
And not signing him long term is the "risk", not this 2 year crap.
Watch how fast Tampa Bay offers him crazy $$$ at around $7 to $7.5 Mill a year.

And my vote is 15-year, $67.5 million contract he gets

his value is lower now than it was in the beginning of the year... that's not b/c he hasn't been superman... he has barely been avg the last 2 1/2 months. He still shows that he hasn't had 1 consistent year.

2. TB would never offer that much money for 3 reasons. First they can't afford to have 4 players take up over half the cap. Who else will play for them than pee wee players. Secondly, giving up 4 first round picks for a player who is inconsistant and will aboslutly decimate your cap and force a bad trade of the big three would be dumb. and Third, No goalie should make that much. You can't have a good supporting cast. HE IS NOT WORTH MORE THAN LUONGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! who makes too much at $6.75 mil. Just ask him how many cups he's won. He isn't a top 5 goalie yet and in no way should (or probably would) be paid that high by any team.

If somebody offers him a $7mil or higher offer sheet it would actually be better off to let him walk, and take the picks.

Don't be surprised if he gets a short contract, like 2 to 4 years $ 4.5 to $6 million per, he has NOT been great this season.

I won't be surprised and I actually think that it is the way to go for both sides... Lundy will have something to prove to make more money, and get that long term security while we can a) see if he is capable of putting up a consistent season and b) groom another goalie just in case he can't.
