I Found this in my Crappy Local Paper Today...

I didn't know that he would still be affected so much by it, but I guess that's because I've never had my throat slit either...

Wow to this quote:

Quote:
At the time, there were reports that 11 fans fainted and two more had heart attacks when Malarchuk's macabre accident took place. Three players vomited on the ice.

I think I would have puked too. All that blood on the ice and the look of death in the eyes - not good

Considering how close he came to dying on the ice, it's not surprising it still affects him. Surviving those sorts of things tend to stay with you.

It's pretty traumatizing, I'd be surprised if the Zednik incident didn't bother him.

At first I was a little shocked that there was such emotional trauma, but yeah, having your life flash right before your eyes must have some effect.

Here is another good read at the Columbus Dispatch

The words that stick with me are where he skated off the ice so his mother wouldn't have to watch him die. **** up.

For those of you who can stomach it, here's the incident:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plvKlnguJVE

Advance warning: it's not for the weak stomached or faint of heart, it's a really, really nasty occurence.

Kudos to him for being able to come back so soon.

This video shows the same incident, but from a couple of different angles. Some comments are posted afterwards, a short message about the trainer who ran onto the ice, and a couple of other things.

Again, a very graphic video.

I personally know Clint and consider him a good friend. This is something he does not talk about and when he does you can visually see the emotion, when Zednik got slit I could only imagine what went through mind. There also is a video on TSN with Clint about the subject.

Not sure how they can say Zednik "wasn't nearly as bloody" as the Malarchuk thing... more spread out, maybe, as he skated to the bench, but there was certainly just as much blood coming out of him.

After Zednik I'd accept mandatory neck guards. If nothing else, an arena full of fans doesn't deserve to be scarred by seeing a player die on the ice some day because of an accident like this...

The Malarchuk video is so gruesome, it seems like a horror movie or something fake. Truly turned my stomach... big time!
