Points Situation

This isn't another fire-sale thread

As I'm looking at todays standings and the final ones from last season, I'm wondering the number of pts we will need to (aka Magic Number):

a) just sneak in with the 8 spot (Assuming then we get Ottawa, idk how I feel about that yet)

or

b) duplicate last seasons performance and grab 6th place and play possibly, imo, a scary Capitals team.

OR

c) Grab 7th (best way to go imo) and play an Atlantic rival that we know well.

Soo0o0o0 - what way do you guys think is the best and how many pts will we need to be safe? I dont see us going higher than 6th in the final Conference standings and personally id rather be 6th than 5th or 4th. I think c then b are the best options and I think we will need at least 88-93 pts to be safe just to get in. And to wrap up 6th I think we need 93.

If the Rangers got hot enough to grab the 6th seed, they would scrub the 3 seed in Washington or Carolina. Coming into the NHL playoffs that hot gives teams great advantages.

James Mirtle does a near daily "playoff push" posting on his blog, showing each teams needed remaining record to clinch a spot.

Most recent: http://mirtle.blogspot.com/2008/01/p...s-or-bust.html

Rangers currently need to go 13-9-1

Worst loss of the year

IMO

Was that Sunday game at home against Boston, the home and home. They had lost the day before up in Boston in the shootout and they could have really set things apart that day. In fact my fiancee and i went, it was that really cold, windy day.

They played like GARBAGE. It was the worst showing, they just gave up and lost 3-1 (with a very late Dubinsky goal). Renney was really really upset in the press conference after. It was definitely a low point.

If they had found a way to win that game, right now the standings would look like this.

7. Rangers - 65
8. Buffalo - 64
9. Boston - 61

Talk about a big point in the season. But just another big IF in a stack of IFs.
