I think we can officially make the Koivu line the #1 if Hossa is on it.

It makes no sense for Hossa to re-sign in Atlanta.

And it seems to me Montreal should be a likely destination for him.

Definitely. Montreal has a winning and improving team, plenty of cap space, and a clear need for a scoring forward. And they have the prospect pool to swing a deal. There are worse fits. (But we knew that -- that's why every pundit out there is suggesting Hossa-to-Montreal).

If he's dead-set on testing the UFA market, though, then he won't be in Montreal during the playoffs.

I see everyone having Ottawa as a possible destination by a few posters here...how exactly is that going to happen?

Maybe as a UFA rental...

But they've got 40M committed to salaries next year, Chris Kelly's a UFA, Andrej Meszaros and Antoine Vermette are RFA's . Furthermore, they've only got Phillips, Volchenkov and Shchubert signed to deals for next year.

Not to mention that the Sens #1 priority should be finding a long terms fix for their goaltending issue.

How are they going to add a player who'll most likely command 8M/yr as a UFA?

In any case, Hossa will wind up in Ottawa. Bank on it.
With the loss of Corvo and Redden , i'd try to go after a pucking moving D instead of Hossa if i was them because otherwise they are going to have a big hole back there.

Hossa shouldn't be one of their priority imho.

Yeah if Hossa did get hurt before they could trade him would be a disaster for ATL.Probably better for Waddell to get it over with and just trade Hossa now instead of waiting.I guess he wants to wait until the very last minute before trading him in hopes some team becomes desperate and severely overpays for him.He better pray he doesn't tear up a knee or something before he can deal him.Just deal him already Waddell so everyone can stop speculating about where he will end up.

If Ottawa does let Redden go, even though he'd take a reduced salary to play there, they're the dumbest team ever.

I honestly cannot see them getting hossa and then having no money to spend on a puck moving defenseman, unless they think Meszaros is good enough already.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see Hossa go to Detroit either though.

I have a simple solution...Heatley is signed for like 4 years, trade Heatley for Hossa and maybe a depth d-man...

Heatley returning to Atlanta is probably not going to happen, ever.

I think this rests on Gainey's shoulders. Will he be willing to part with the prospects? I think he should.

Give them Chipchura, Latendresse, Grabovski, Fischer, whoever.

If we can add Hossa without losing a guy like Higgins it's a no-brainer for me.

Hossa just seriously dwindled his value to Don Waddell. GM's around the league now know he's not going to re-sign there, meaning they are going to say "He's not going to be yours in a couple months." They have to still outbid the other teams, but his value is lower now than it was.

I'm pretty sure I remember him being surprised the Sens traded him.

Ottawa dealt Hossa behind his back as soon as he signed his last contract. I see no way that Hossa will ever re-sign with Ottawa again after that.

He wants to go to a contender... Ottawa fits the bill and I'm sure he'll consider it, but as many pointed out, it doesn't make sense for Ottawa, salary wise...

As one poster mention, I think he'll be dealt to Dallas... but I really hope he'll end up here...

Cross your fingers, Hossa here would be Ideal, would help impact the whole team and we would be a huge threat because our whole team can score, not just one line.

I bet on San Jose. I don't know why but they have something to give.
