He hasn't played in them since 2002-03...so there could be a drop of there.

First off he has a concusion and hasn't played in a long time, plus his salary would be 2 million towards the cap for a 3rd liner that is a heavy hit for a question mark.

Why not give Forsberg a pro-rated contract for that much then? Both are as questionable for health, but at least it seems Forbsberg still brings more to the table than Fedorov.

I pass on both, but Fedorov even more so.

a) Forsberg won't sign here
b) I'd pay $2 million for him to shut down top lines because Smoke will get burned. We saw how important Pahlsson was to the Ducks, Fedorov could do a similar job here.

Have any of you seen Fedrov's play since he left Anaheim? Heck since he left Detroit?

This is not the same Fedorov of those years...he has declined in play and would not help this team, and as a 2 million dollar 1/3 season pick up a very expensive 3rd line addition.

I don't like Smolinski as the shut down guy either, but I would hate for Montreal to try to think that getting help on the 3rd-4th lines is needed more than adding secondary scoring on the top two lines!

If salary is to be added it should be addressed for that need first, address the 3-4 lines after you shore up the scoring.

I think Montreal maybe able to package Ryder for a shutdown type of forward to help the defensive side of the Habs game.

A bigger name or picks/prospects will be used to bring in some scoring.

I personnaly think he would be an interesting pick up if he comes cheap...
YEURK ! That's all I can say. Halpern or Holik would be way better pick ups.

Forsberg is rumoured to be asking for atleast a 2 yr contract at 4 or 5mil per.

This is a guy who is a playoff performer, over a PPG. God forbid Koivu goes down with an injury, who would you rather step up of Fedorov, Holik or Halpern? We know the offensive force Fedorov can be. Adding Fedorov can solve many problems, 3rd line shutdown centre, Top 6 replacement incase of injury, 2nd unit PP help, even a replacement on defence due to injury.

He's expensive, yes around $2 million by the deadline. But the team would still have $2 million left to spend, plus the salary they get rid of in trading assets.

Ottawa's view on Fedorov...

"As for Sergei Federov, he has stated to others close to him that he wants to play on a Canadian team before his career is over. I am sure he has enough left in the tank for the last few months of the season to give a team depth at the forward position. Federov would be great on the 2nd line in Ottawa and as I have stated in the past, Murray has had Federov in both Detroit and Anaheim which is why it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he is in a Sens uniform come February 27th... "

You are over rating Fedorov at this stage of his carreer. He is over the hill since 3-4 years now.

Won the cup, plenty of playoff experience...I really think you cannot have too much of those kind of players.

I would not expect him to get 2-3 points a night but as I said earlier he could be useful for the right price.

This is pretty much the way I see it. Of course if Gainey is going to make the "Big move" at the deadline, we would want a Hossa/Jokinen etc...

But IMO if that doesn't happen and we are still looking at adding a depth player. Fedorov would be a good choice.

I agree with you. But some guys here are still dreaming of the Detroit's Fedorov. Burke was a genious trading him for Beauchemin and Marchant.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would be expecting the "Detroit" Fedorov here.

If and it's a big IF we were looking to add Fedorov it would be as a 3rd line C and potential back up to our top 2 centerman. We aren't expecting a superstar, only an upgrade on who we currently have playing that role.

Thanks for your opinion though, it's always nice to hear from fans that actually get a chance to watch the players on a regular basis.

Fedorov is not even an upgrade on Smolinski, maybe a guy like Gratton if he can play mean and win some faceoffs.

Has not played in the playoffs since 2002-03, can't point that out to you as much as I have!!!

An offensive force...once again let me please introduce 2002-2003 to you, he had 31 goals in 2003-2004, but was 20 points under a PPG.

Your value and what you think Fedorov will bring to this team is no where close to what he would actually bring.
