That's pretty cool considering there were some CBJ and Lightning fans who were discussing potential deals involving Sydor and Svitov. Good work guys!

Good deal for both clubs IMO. Tampa gets a legit top 3 d-man, someone who can lead their young defense. Columbus gets a nice, young center who has been compared to Bobby Holik. Tampa can affod to deal Svitov given their two young stars in Lecavalier and Richards.

I like the deal for both sides as well.

Great asset management by Columbus too, all they gave up for Sydor was Sillinger and a 2nd.

I guess this stops the Hamrlik for Svitov rumors.

i like the deal for TB, but i would have guessed that Svitov had more value than Sydor. especially since TB gave the higher pick, too...

great deal, IMHO completely even.

CBJ gets another beastly force upfront who could definitly help out a lot, and tampa gets there defensemen they wanted all along...

great move

Rick Nash and Alex Svitov is a mean duo, add Zherdev into the mix and it's scary. Smart move by Colombus, obviously recognizing that Svitov had great chemistry with Perezhogin (in AHL Hamilton), so they acquire him and will probably play him with a Russian with even more talent.

I really like this trade.

Great move by both teams. Svitov was behind Brad Richards and Vincent Lecavalier in the Tampa Bay depth chart. Now Tampa gets there defenseman and The Blue Jackets get another young prospect.

and thank god for that!!!! I guess this also answers the question of why the team yanked Svitov out of Hamilton but didn't put him in the lineup with the big club.

Sydor >>> Hamrlik

I'm glad Jay Feaster got that damn fool "reacquire Roman" idea out of his head.

It's a solid move for Columbus, but there are a lot of veterans I would have dumped ahead of Sydor. However, I understand that they have untradeable contracts and would not have brought return like Svitov, who is a prospect I like a lot.

edit: Good lord, does TBay have an ugly website.

How much does Sydor make and how long is he under contract for?

This trade makes a lot of sense for two teams heading in different directions but if Sydor is expensive or only a rental I dont like it for Tampa.

Sydor has 3 years left, not sure about the dollar amount.

I'm pretty sure he makes 3.5 this year, and is signed for 2 more years at 4.5 a year.

He is under contract until 2006-07 and makes 3.5 - 4.5 mil a year depending the year I believe.

I completely disagree. Sydor is not Hamrlik's equal. He is much less physical, and much weaker in his own end.

I think Tampa lost this deal big time.

I'm ever so slightly disappointed with the trade from a CBJ perspective.

I don't like that CBJ gave up a pick and I wish they could've acquired a higher pick.
Essentially, if you take Sydor out of the deal its --

Sillinger, 2nd, 4th for Svitov and 3rd.

I like Svitov a lot, but I was set on getting I higher pick. Seems silly, but I'm a little bummed. Oh well.

Not so long ago, Svitov was a top 3 prospect in hockey. Seems a little much for Sydor.

NHLPA has it at 3.5m

I found newspaper reports saying he signed on Feb 2002 for 5 years - 15.8M total so they have him till 2006/7 ?

Not bad.. a very intriguing deal.

I agree with others here that this was a good deal. Sydor has won a cup and is exactly what Tamp needed. Great trade for both teams. CLB is on their way to building a winner. They should be a fun team to watch really soon.

Sydor doesn't float. Hamrlik is one of the biggest wastes of talent in the league.

This is a solid deal by both teams, but Tampa may be kicking themselves slightly down the road if Svitov reaches his potential (which is a great deal of potential, I should add).

Sydor is a nice defenseman, but I can't help but feel he might be slightly overpaid.

Oh well. Tampa looks like a much stronger team today than they did yesterday!
