Totaly agree...kinda wierd being a canadian and all but he was one of my idols growing up. I loved to watch him play.

Sergi Makarov would have been up there as well if he played his entire carrer in the NHL.

Jari Kurri played with the great one and that is keeping me from saying he is a top european player.

1-Dominik Hasek
2-Jaromir Jagr
3-Peter Forsberg

Kurri. Game breaker goal scorer, yet can check like mad and covered up for Gretz.

There's no way, IMO, that Pavel Bure is the second greatest European to play in the NHL.

Would have been Valery Kharlamov IMO.

About NHL I feel too that Stastny is underrated.

I think he had in mind Kovalchuk, but I dunno. I doubt he meant Frolov... but you never know.

Forward: Kurri
D-Man:Fetisov now, Lidstrom soon
Goalie: Hasek easy

Konstantinov, in my opinion, could have been up there.

As soon as I saw this thread title, I thought of Stastny and Salming, so I guess those are my choices. Lots of good players on here though. I think if Forsberg can keep up his pace for a few more years (or Naslund for that matter) they will vault themselves into contention.

I think it was the Hockey News a year or so back that had a big article on Fetisov being the best European ever. I'd go with Jagr.

I'd say Hasek. Forwards tend to get overrated in these types of polls.

Hmm... which were the very *best* at their positions while they were in the league?

Hasek
Forsberg
Lidstrom
Jagr was the best for while too....
