He's not semi-better. He's straight up better. I love Girardi, but Tyutin is a step above him right now.

As he should be. It's hard to believe that this is his first full NHL season. He plays like a veteran.

Girardi was an undrafted player remember and has not even played a full season. Of course Tutyin should be a little more experience and better.

Awesome. Like the player, like the cap hit. He'll only get better and better from here on and can become a real defensive stud.

Dont be suprised if theres another RFA re-signing or 2 within the next week. Sather's managing future budget before the deadline.

Good contract. I was worrying a little that it might be closer to 2 million. Hopefully this will mean that Tyutin signs for closer to 2 million rather than upwards of 3 million.

Very good signing. The Rangers have the leverage with these young RFA defensemen. They should give them good contracts like in Girardi's case but should not overpay. Tyutin should be between $1.5 and $2.

I'd still be willing to give Tyutin 2-2.5 million. Of course, this is coming from a non-biased poster

Disagree on Tyutin actually being better... There is a reason that Tyutin won't be allowed near a powerplay for some time. He just isn't as good with the puck and it's not like he's all that much more physical either.

I agree in them being mentioned in "similar" terms, but that is about it. Don't think he is straight-up better at all.

If Girardi got 3.1 for 2 years Toots should get at least 4.1.

Very fair contract.

I expect Tyutin to get a million more.

i don't see why tyutin should be getting that much more. If anything, both should get similar contracts, maybe with toots making 1.7 - 2.0 mil IMO. Girardi has proven (so far) that he can put up more points, and both are equally solid on defense i'd say. Still, i believe tyutin does have the higher ceiling of the two in terms of physical play as well as offensive production (still waiting....)

See now THATS a good signing. Big time. Everyone freaks out that a team could get Lundqvist to sign an offer sheet, but really that amounts to a BLOCKBUSTER

He'd get paid 8+ millon in exchange for 4 picks. Ouch.

Thats just not to likely to happen imo. So expensive.

Girardi on the other hand is a 2nd pair D man making .5 mill

The offer sheet aimed at him is a serious threat.

Sather did a great thing locking him up.

You're absolutely right.

Somebody may be willing to give up the picks, but if the Oilers wind up winning the lottery and Burke gets to pick Stamkos with their pick, nobody's ever gonna try that **** again. You don't want to be the GM on the wrong end of that, and 4 years out is a heck of a long time to prognosticate. Girardi's deal prevents anyone from making a reasonable offer, but it also makes him one hell of a chip if a younger guy steps up into top 4 minutes. I don't think Girardi is a true top 2 guy, but he's a damn good, cheap 3 or 4, especially since he added a little offense to his game this season. Great signing for NY.

I agree with him not being good with the puck, but Tyutin is probably one of the more physical dmen.

Toots has a wicked hip check, and plays smartly. I think it's crazy that some people feel that "physical" only means big booming open ice hits. The best d-men keep their opponents along the boards and use their positioning to make the play, and take the puck away.

DG looks to be a SOLID 3-4

its a great deal, and a neccessary one. He is just the sort of player that would be targeted for an offer sheet...

There's an understated quality about Tyutin's game. He is really our most physical defenseman. He leads the team in hits and they tend to be hard ones. He's solid in most aspects of the game--he has not however taken his game to the next level and become a legit #1 or 2--his offense has lagged and he is really a solid 3-4 guy and that might be all he ever is. Nothing wrong with that--and at his age he should be around for a long time. That being said--you have to hold some kind of line on salary for younger guys unless they really stand out like Lundqvist. It leaves more cap flexibility to pursue top end players.

GREAT deal. A small price to pay for a player like Girardi.

In my opinion he hasn't even reached his peak yet, this is a good investment in the future.
