Hammer's skin condition

Skin conditions can become chronic aggravated by sweating? Is this a career threatening thing for Hammer?

your kidding right; can you name the last pro atheletes career that was cut short due to a skin condition from excess sweating.

I think they have medicine for that.

It can be fixed. Just ask Brian Campbell.

Hamrlik did say that he knows a player who had to end his NHL career because of a similar case...I'm a bit worried...

Also there is a fungus or something (bacteria) that stays in the hockey equipment...since hockey equipment is never cleaned properly ( Like in a big special Industrial dry cleaner dryer thing)

Joe Thorton I think it was had the condition once...It is rare but it has affected some NHL players.

It all stems from the equipment...(sweating)

Businesses are popping up now offering special drying machines for hockey equipment

A player had to retire because of that, they mentionned it the other day on CKAC, don't remember the name of the player, it was Vorpat or something.

I don't know what caused Mario Tremblay's reaction , but he played with pain every game. He developed a severe rash abd would be a bloody mess after every game. They never solved the problem. I remember a lot of his teammates saying they weren't sure they'd be able to play if they had the same problem.

T. may have had that incident in mind.

I'd be surprised, Trent Klatt has eczema while from the description, Hammer seems to have what we call "urticaire" in french. It's an allergic reaction that can be caused by medication, irritation, dust, animal allergies, pollen, certain foods and even sweat.

I remember when Klatt was going through it they had to be very careful in how his under gear and othe equipment was being cleaned...are you sure they said it was eczema because that is a pretty common skin disease to have and it seemed to take a while for them to determine what was wrong with Klatt and how to treat it.

This could be wrong, but it sounds about right.

No offense, but this makes no sense at all. There are no absolutes in medicine, things that work for one person can be disastrous for another.

I think eczema can be triggered by an allergy to something too, although some people just get it for no apparent reason. Two of my cousin's kids had it pretty bad when they were young, and they never figured out what was triggering it. My cousin used to have a really hard time keeping it under control in the summer- sweating definitely made it worse for them.

How much would it end up costing Hamrlik to just get new equipment for each game? Probably a ton, but it'd be worth it to the team to pay that to make sure their investment doesn't retire.

Tom Reid....but that goes back a few decades. They fixed the rash problem I believe in early '80s. Doesn't sound like Hamrilik's rash is relative to the hockey rash of yesteryear

I coached a player who was hospitalized for an extended period of time last year because of a severe case of psoriasis that came out of nowhere... anyone who thinks it is something minor should have seen this individual. His entire body was a complete mess and he couldn't do anything.

I hope it doesn't develop to that stage with Hammer... and I'm not laughing.
