- Oilers captain Jason Smith is on the verge of returning to the lineup, so much so that he could be back as early as tonight. Trouble is, he just doesn't know from day to day, practice to practice, how his ankle is going to respond.
No fracture was detected in tests that have been completed, but Lowe is certain that Smith sustained more than a sprain when he crashed into the boards at Rexall Place on Dec. 30.
Although the captain has missed the last 13 games, he has been back on the ice and practising regularly with the team.
"Am I sure I'm going to play? No. We'll see how it goes (this morning) and go from there," said Smith. "Sometimes it feels good. Sometimes it feels like junk. I'm testing it out more and more in practice. Hopefully I can get out in a game soon."
I think Jason Smith may need an MRI.
