A theory: could getting the RFAs signed mean they are part of a trade? Not likely, I know, but not impossible.

Good job by Sather with another extension for stability, continuity etc. within the organization.

To me it means more and more that Rozsival is gone. Whether it is that he is traded this year or walks during the summer, It makes me think that Sather's priorities, as he promised, are the youth.

Or, conversely, he's locking up all the loose ends so that he knows exactly what space he has to work with when it comes to signing UFAs, including his own and those around the league.

Either way, I think it's VERY smart to be getting these promising young guys locked up for multiple years at reasonable rates. I'm guessing 3 years at $2.65MM.

If true then that would be 2.85 million per year. VERY nice contract. Might be a bit much now but in 3 years that will look VERY nice.

bought 2 years from him at probably 1 mil per cheaper than he could have got if he was a F/A then.

smart deal for both of us.

Careful, Sam, you'll make Ryan jealous!

Did Tyutin hold out until Girardi signed as well? Is there a clause in their contracts that they have to be paired together at all times? Has the team made up T-shirts for the two that says “DPF (Defensive Partners Forever)?

Little more than expected but if Tyutin increases his play in the next few years that will be well beyond worth it.

Where is this money coming from?

And, yeah, it's a really good deal. A little more per year then most guessed, but it's worth it for the extra year we get to control Tyutin.

What do you mean where is this money coming from? Mara, Malik, and probably Rosie will all be gone next year, so that's a huge chunk gone.

I freaked out when I saw the ESPN headline.
"Rangers make another deal, this one with Tyutin"
I thought we made two trades today and one of them involved Tyutin.

and then

Not bad. Now our only remaining RFAs are dawes and hossa.

Wow, I just realized that if the rangers sign hossa and dawes to something like 1 mill each and let go of all their UFAs (including or excluding Avery) they will have more than enough $ to sign Hossa and still have extra cap space.

Dawes cap # appears to be about $365k, a 2 years @ $1MM would be a nice raise for him. Hossa hasn't earned the $1MM, IMHO.

or Slats is getting as many RFA's signed so that when he trades a bunch of other prospects at the deadline he doesn't look COMPLETELY reckless.

A little high but considering that it's 4 years--it's fine. These are big assets to have locked up--3 solid young defensemen--Staal, Girardi, Tyutin with Sangs, Sauer and maybe Baranka on the way. Got to think we'll sign a veteran or two in the summer.

I would note that Jessiman is also an RFA after the season.
