For those that didn't know, Renaud posted a blog on www.windsorspitfires.com

Really good read to see the character of this young man.

RIP

His memorial service is tonight and tommorrow. Funeral is Friday.

Windsor has alot of former/present OHL players and past teamates down.
Oshawa General players: Ryan Baldwin, Micheal Neuvirth, Jonathon Sciacca are in town.
Sarnia Sting: Matt Martin, Ryan Wilson, Aaron Snow
Belleville Bull: Parker Van Buskirk

Jim Nill, Tom Webster are also in town.
CHL/OHL commisioner David Branch is down.
Rumours about Downie, O'Reilly and Ted Nolan coming down to Windsor to pay tribute was also mentioned.

Spit players Jordan Nolan, O'Donnell, Rob Kwiet all went home (they were there when he passed on)

Windsor has cancelled its game tmrw Vs Plymouth and Sunday vs Oshawa. They will be retiring Mickeys jersey as will the Techumseh Chiefs (JR B team). # 18 will be painted behind both nets in Windsor, along with a patch on the jerseys.

Rumour was all 3 leagues will be wearing a number 18 patch on their helmets for the rest of the season as well.

Only just heard about it, when I saw it posted on a dutch hockey site, my condoleances go to anyone who knew Mickey, it's really tragic when someone passes away, especially when they would have had a whole life ahead of them.

R.I.P. Mickey.

Crowds pack church to say goodbye to junior hockey star - Calgary Herald 02/22/08

Quote:
Funeral services have just concluded here for Mickey Renaud, the 19-year-old Ontario Hockey League player who died suddenly earlier this week.

Hundreds of mourners, including those connected to the Windsor Spitfire club and other members of the hockey community, paid their final respects to the star captain, whose death has left this community in shock.

The two-hour ceremony was held at a packed St. Anne's Church, not far from where Renaud lived with his parents. That is where the young man collapsed and died Monday morning.

The cause of his death is still unknown.

The tragedy has stirred this tiny town, where an estimated 1,000 people attended Thursday afternoon's visitation to pay their respects.

A similarly large crowd gathered outside the church Friday, many of them young kids wearing hockey jackets and carrying condolence cards.

Renaud, a centre, was drafted in the fifth round by the Calgary Flames in last summer's NHL draft. Flames general manager Darryl Sutter attended the funeral, as did several former Spitfires players and the entire current squad, coaching staff and front office personnel.

The OHL has cancelled two Spitfires games - including Sunday's against the Oshawa Generals - to allow Renaud's former teammates to grieve.

The Spitfires have painted Renaud's No. 18 into the ice behind each of the nets at their home arena and players will wear a memorial patch of that number.

Even living so many miles away I am shocked and saddened so much by his death. He is at rest now though.

Any word on when they will retire his number?

It is already retired....a ceremony is supposed to be in september but may wait until the new arena opens in December.

Dale Hunter, Tom Webster, Darryl Sutter and some members of the flames brass were here in Windsor today.

Also, the road to the new arena being built may be re-named Mickey Renaud Way
