After the ****-show we've seen from these guys lately, anything less than a regulation win tonight will be a big disapointment. With Edmonton, Vancouver and Minnesota all playing tonight, this is a must-win game.
Any word on whether it will be Kiprusoff or Joseph in net tonight?
Calgary G Miikka Kiprusoff, it appears, will get the nod tonight against Phoenix.
If you're keeping track, G Curtis Joseph has started once in a dozen dates. But then again, the Flames are in business tomorrow at Dallas, so that could be his assignment. Maybe.
But the Flames are squarely focused on tonight — Calgary and Phoenix (and Vancouver) all start the day with 66 points.
“This is as big a game as we’ve played in a long time," RW Jarome Iginla said after the brisk morning skate."Look at the standings — they’re tied with us. We’ve got to get our things going again. This would be a good way to do it. This is a team that’s feeling good and they’re going to want to jump into a playoff spot. We want to keep ours and move up and square up the road trip at 2-2.” Added D Cory Sarich: “Oh, it's huge. We haven’t performed like we wanted on this trip, so we just want to get back in the win column — that’s the bottom line.”
The Flames, however, have succeeded only three times in their last eight dates. And, in their three road games, have been outplayed significantly.
The Coyotes, meanwhile, are on a three-game winning streak — 14-7-3 in their last 24 outings — including Monday's 4-0 blanking of the home-ice Los Angeles Kings.
Hard to believe that they'd started the season 11-14-0.
Game day in Arizona for the Flames as they battle a red hot Coyotes team that just swept a 2 games home and home with the Kings. Kiprusoff will be back in goal tonight, make no bones about it Calgary is not screwing around with its goaltenders; this is Miikka’s team they will win or lose with him. It looks like Rhett Warrener and Dustin Boyd could be back in the line up tonight.
Talking to Peter Maher earlier today, it was made clear yesterday that the Old “Iron Mike” is back. Keenan ripped into his team yesterday instead of a practice; he has been a different guy this season according to players who played for him before. My only concern with that would be why now? And will it really work? Time will tell!
