Regardless of if it's true or not...just having word out there(among GM's) might help drop the asking price for Hossa or Jokinen.

In other words, if I'm Bob Gainey, I want GM's that are selling to think I have 6-7 options and am only getting one of those players.

Why wouldn't we be? Just because the Leafs are a rival?

It's highly doubtful we'll make an exchange, but Bob would be ridiculous not to talk to Fletcher.

If we couldn't get a guy like Hossa, Jagr or Havlat, and Toronto made Antropov available? I'd be all over it.

Actually, there was rumors that COL and MTL were in discussion for Theodore during the fall of the same season Gainey shiped him for Aebisher. Col GM confirmed that they had dicussion at the time, but added that Gainey's price was way to high. If I can find the link I'll post it here....

I like Sundin, but I don't think BG will want to pay the price the Leafs will be looking for for a rental.

With Montreal linked to so many rumors one has to wonder if there is some truth to them? If there is at least we know Gainey is doing some feelers out there and he maybe looking at his best option with the lowest price to pay in order to receive those players.

A link to Hossa, Jokinen, Havlat and now Sundin....if one comes true you have to feel good about where the Habs are wanting to go this post season!

Jokinen and Havlat are under contract, Hossa maybe a deal can be made but we all know Sundin is not committing to a deal and more that likely will return to the Leafs...maybe Montreal offers them a 1st, Ryder and a prospect for Sundin? There is a good chance Ryder signs on with the Leafs if he has a decent audition? After all wasn't he a Leaf fan as a kid according to some here???

Sundin has a high trade value, but his unwillingness to extend brings his value down...I know it will take another player or a prospect but I think the above would be a start.

Has anyone consulted Sundin about the likelihood of his moving. I don't think he'd budge.

Not that I ever think it would happen but Sundin would make us instant contenders IMO. Not to say we aren't contenders right now but he'd move us up the list.

He'll do a Doug Weight/ Keith Tkzachuk move by getting the organization some players, prospects and picks and the return in the off season to help the team further.

I think he will make a move, and if it can potentially weaken a division or conference rival like Ottawa and Montreal he may do that as well.

I would like Sundin as a top centre option, but I think I could sleep better at night knowing who we would give up is in Atlanta or Miami than in Toronto.

With half the leagues player rumoured to be going to Montreal and the other half wanting to play for Toronto, the NHL should just fold all other teams

While I'm posting, can you guys see my infraction notice under my avatar at the bottom? I haven't seen any others.

Don't think it will happen.

However, a Sundin vs Koivu trade would be reaaaaaly weird.

Yeah, except the return was Hejduk (and Aebischer?), and the deal was quashed by Gainey.

Pointless. The Leafs will never trade their captain to MTL.

Why is there a thread for this rumor? I thought all rumors were being posted in the Official Trade Rumor thread? This topic is already being discussed in there aswell.

Instead of bringing it home to Sweden for his day with the Cup, Toronto finally has a parade down Yonge to celebrate the Cup win!

Because there is now a rule that it's one thread per rumour target. This will turn into the "Sundin trade rumours" thread.

If I seem to remember right, the rumor was that Gainey was approached numerous time and that each time the AV GM approached Bob, the player the Habs were getting in exchange for Theodore was less and less important.

I remember reading or hearing something like.

Before the start of the season:

Pierre Lacroix: "Theodore for Tanguay?"
Bob: "No"

Before Christmas:

Pierre Lacroix: "Theodore for Hejduk?"
Bob: "No"

After christmas:

Pierre Lacroix: "Theodore for Aebischer?"
Bob: "Ok"

Well even if that's true, those were seperate rumours. I don't think there were ongoing talks all through September to January, when Theo was traded.

My sources have told me that The Habs have been, and will be, pursuing a top-line forward. They did it in the offseason, they did it last month with Tanguay, and they have shown interest in Hossa. Price and the Kostitsyn bros will not be involved in any deals...
