Even if Sundin coming here gauranteed a cup, I wouldn't wanna make this trade....on the leaf board their saying its Higgins, 1st rounder and emelin (I may be missing one)
I couldn't live with seeing higgins in a leaf sweater for the next 15 years, forget it, for those of you that hate the leafs as much as I do will understand this.... the others won't

Wasn't it for Markov, our first (Komisarek) and Theodore, but we offered Garon instead and thats where the deal fell apart

It was also for the other 1st rounder from Washington in the Linden/Zubrus deal (Perezhogin pick).

Anyway, I think the Leafs would trade Sundin to Montreal if it was the best offer on the table. But I don't think Sundin would waive his NTC to come to Montreal. In fact, I still don't think Sundin's going to get traded at all.

Bad idea according to the The Smolinski Law which says "never trade for a bald guy."

Can we stop with the Sundin rumours already?

Honestly! Do any of you think that there is ANY chance in the world that Gainey would make a deal with the Leafs?
And do any of you think Sundin would actually waive his NTC to play for one of his biggest rivals?
And do any of you think that Gainey would offer any of the Habs prospects to Toronto?

Come on people, let's try to be realistic. It just won't happen. It can't, despite what Bob McKenzie may have said.

There's no way.

Of course if it does happen, I'll man up and admit I was wrong. But it won't.

Sundin is very high on BG's shopping list.

I cansee Gainey trying to get Sundin and talking to his agent about a potential extension(2 years at 14 mil or something). If you can get Sundin for 2 1/2 years I have no problem trading a fair bit to get him. That would give the Habs 3 good cenrermen to go with 6 good wingers.

I just can't see Sundin agreeing to come to Montreal as a rental. Nor can I see him signing an extension.

My sources have told me that The Habs have been, and will be, pursuing a top-line forward. They did it in the offseason, they did it last month with Tanguay, and they have shown interest in Hossa. Price and the Kostitsyn bros will not be involved in any deals...

Thank god we're safe.

I'm sure Gainey is interested, but I highly doubt he helps replenish the leaves cupboards for them.
Besides where would he line up, on the wing? it's either that or just roll 3 lines.

A. Kost-Pleky-Kovy
Higgins-Koivu-Lats
S. Kost-Sundin-Ryder
Begin-Lapierre-Kosto (6 min per game)

Daniel Ororio or something.

What the hell does this guy do that he can sit around and make parody Hab songs.
Most of them aren't even funny, only Tony seems to enjoy them.

Could anyone imagine a Koivu + for Sundin swap?
I've always said I'd buy a Koivu jersey of whatever team he gets traded to but I think a trade like that would kill me...

iai i said in another thread , i suspect that Gainey just try to increase the value of Sundin . Than Ottawa are going to pay more for him , so that they will have less depth ...

Koivu would never waive his NTC to go to a last place hockey team...

I doubt Sundin would waive his no trade clause to come to Montreal. That would really be sticking it to the Leafs fan...He took a pay cut to stay in Toronto...can't see him going over to the enemy like that

Sundin will do whatever is best for Toronto. They're out of the playoffs and if they can get the best return possible from the habs, he will come.

He will sign back with Toronto during the off-season.

And meanwhile, the NHL adopts a by-law which prohibits the upcoming free agents to sign with the team that traded them. This by-law is effective as of July 1st 2009 and there's no grandfathering possible....

I don`t see it happening , BG is not a rental type of GM. I would rather make a pitch for Jokinen, at least at 28 and under contract , he makes more sense.

I'll say I agree with the majority of you, and the idea of Sundin in a Habs jersey, well, just doesn't sit well with me. There are just some things that are sacred, and we shouldn't be doing business with each other.

However, I don't believe that line of thinking is going to creep it's way into the thinking behind a possible deal. Both Fletch, and Gainey are hockey men, who understand the importance of what needs to be done for both teams. Which is why I won't rule out the possibility, but I'm going to still believe it's highly unlikely.

There's nobody as far as prospects I would give up to get a rental like Sundin. I would be interested in Antropov or Kaberle, though.
