I think it all comes back to the buy/sell issue. If Howson determines that we won't make the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised if Foote is traded. He's too valuable/wanted not to. Today I'm sure is going to be the most insanely busy day for GMSH.

Keep an eye on Ron Hainsey and Manny Malhotra. I wouldn't be surprised if they are moved.

i'm anxious to hear from puck rakers to see who was on the ice today for practice. i'm starting to get the feeling that not much is going to happen on the big scale for the jackets until offseason heading into next season. i think feds will be moved for a pick and maybe a prospect and i think tolley will be moved and maybe one other but i don't think howson is thinking playoffs this year. to far back to make up that many points against some big teams. i think he will fix the scoring problem for next year.

Seriously, NOTHING going on as far as trades yet today? There's usually something going down by now - a lot of big deals happen the day before the deadline. This silence is weird.

with so many teams in the mix.. is everyone waiting for the other guy to blink first?

Weird.. How did you get hold of the Richards to Cbus 90%? Do you know the relative or just read it some where?

It was posted on the Trade Rumors board by a solid source close to the Lightning. The source was confirmed by two other posters.

I definitely think there's a game of chicken going on. I just hope GMs don't keep staring each other down until Friday.

Puck-rakers says a Tampa source tells them that nothing's going to happen with Richards today.

Is there a stat for Klesla being out of position? If so it would be in the hundreds..

I agree. This time last year, there was a lot more activity the day before -- heck even two days before the deadline:

Two days before:
February 25, 2007: To Atlanta Thrashers : Keith Tkachuk
To St. Louis Blues: Glen Metropolit,a 1st round pick in 2007, a 3rd round pick in 2007 (Brett Sonne), a 2nd round pick in 2008 and a conditional 1st round pick in 2008

February 25, 2007: To San Jose Sharks : Craig Rivet and a 5th round pick in 2008
To Montreal Canadiens : Josh Gorges and 1st round pick in 2007 (Max Pacioretty)

One day before:
February 26, 2007: To New York Islanders : Richard Zednik
To Washington Capitals : 2nd round pick in 2007 (Ted Ruth)

February 26, 2007: To Ottawa Senators : Lawrence Nycholat
To Washington Capitals : Andy Hedlund and a 6th round pick in 2007 (Justin Taylor )

February 26, 2007: To Vancouver Canucks: Brent Sopel
To Los Angeles Kings : 2nd round pick in either 2007 (option exercised, Wayne Simmonds)or a 4th round pick in 2008

February 26, 2007: To Vancouver Canucks : Bryan Smolinski
To Chicago Blackhawks : conditional 2nd round pick ( Akim Aliu)

February 26, 2007: To Philadelphia Flyers : Lasse Kukkonen and a 3rd round pick in 2007 (Garrett Klotz)
To Chicago Blackhawks : Kyle Calder

February 26, 2007: To Detroit Red Wings : Kyle Calder
To Chicago Blackhawks : Jason Williams

February 26, 2007: To Pittsburgh Penguins: Gary Roberts
To Florida Panthers : Noah Welch

The of course all the deals on deadline day.

http://nhltradeshistory.blogspot.com/

This year really could be a serious let down but I've got to think some deals go down today.

I think the relative lack of movement up to now is related at least in part to the Sundin situation. I think a lot of teams that were hoping he'd be on the block are now putting together their respective "Plan B"s. I'd have to think there will be at least a couple of relatively noteworthy deals that will have occurred before the day is over.

I had hoped that the signing of Foote talk

was just posturing to up the ante from other teams wanting his services for the playoffs. I like Adam Foote, just seems a little long in the tooth to sign for two more seasons.

if howson thinks we are going for the playoffs this year then yes sign him but if not then i wouldn't sign him, and get as much as possible for him for next year. we could sign somebody like campbell in offseason for the same amount.

Foote is reportedly only seeking 3-4 mil. Campbell is commanding over 6 million a season, which is why he won't be back with the Sabres next year. No way we could sign Campbell for the same amount. Not to mention Campbell wants a long term deal whereas Foote is looking for 2 years.

but if you take foote's contract and take off hainsey's then it would be a wash and then have methot up here for the season

Well that's a different story. Personally, I wouldn't want to sink that kind of money on one defenseman (Campbell) who as great as he is offensively, isn't a very good on defense. I'd rather go after a number one center, or get two solid players one of which could be a puck moving dman with some offensive skill for the same amount of money.

And, I hope Methot is up with Columbus next season regardless if Foote and/or Hainsey are retained.

Which site is faster at getting trade deals out there on the web... nhl.com or TSN?
