I like how a bunch of guys sitting at a computer are debating one of the most talented hockey player's opinion about another players talent level.

Jagr is not surprised of Alex Kovalev's success. Last year, he was already saying that the Habs would be wrong by trading him.

"The habs would have committed a terrible mistake, did he say tuesday. Kovalev still has gas in his tank. We have been teammates in Pittsburgh. He is the most talented player I ever played with.

I know someone named Mario who might be crying somewhere in Pennsylvania.
you can't take comments like that too seriously. He is just trying to give a compliment. Similar to when Gretz said that Forsberg was one of the top 5 of all time.

Have you ever thought that Jagr might just be talking about players that are still active in the NHL today?

Many people have been saying that Kovalev is one of the purest talents they've ever seen. (Hell, even TSN says it... "Is perhaps the premier stick handler in the game.")

Now, everyone knows that talent alone is not enough and that's what has stopped Kovalev to be one of the great ones. Plus, great stick handling and skill doesn't always translate in game situations but is still there...

Still, he is one of the purest talent to hit the ice and I don't see anything wrong with Jagr's comment.
