Interesting that the Flames now have 8 healthy defensemen on the roster.....Is something else brewing???

Flyers fan here...I'd be lying if I told you the high majority of Philly fans aren't going to be thrilled about this move.

Vandermeer is a tough customer, usually plays a good physical game, and even chips in on offense once in awhile.

His biggest drawbacks are pretty much bonehead plays in his own zone, bonehead turnovers, etc. All that crap is what has him being so heavily criticized in Philly...he's cost us one too many goals recently.

I am not sure what to really make of this trade. Sutter sure likes his Western Canadians.

If you want to make a playoff run, you need 8 defensemen at least.

Sutter should know that after the '04 run

According to claude bovin lives, Vandermeer isn't that great in his own zone. I'd say a slower, more physical Erikkson.

He's not really big and slow. Calling him that would be quite extreme. He plays a tough and physical game, but he's not the biggest guy in the world. He's not the fastest guy in the world either, but nor is he terribly slow.

And while I wouldn't call him the kind of guy you would bring in to solve your "puckmoving" problems, he is somewhat of a puckmoving, well-skating dman. Lol...let me stress "somewhat."

Hmmm... He used to play for the Red Deer Rebels. Maybe Sutter has some inside information about him?

Im guessing he will be another flames d-man will be traded to another team, that other team will trade 1 of their d-man to make room for the newly acquired d-man, and it will continue

I'm not sure exactly how your team stacks up on defense, or what your needs are for the rest of the season.....but, in short, I'd say Vandermeer would be a good choice for a team who needs a 3rd pairing defenseman with some grit.

Again, whether or not that is something your team needs...I don't know.

Don't be. Florida fans were absolutely thrilled to get rid of Huselius at the time.

Yah but Juice had talent, just no consistency. This guy seems to be consistently talentless. I hope he's just another Cale Hulse and we'll soon be rid of him.

Vandermeer turns the puck over way to much, makes stupid plays (See recent Montreal series) no longer fights, gets out of position, can't pass the puck, loses battles, and raises my blood pressure.

He was a healthy scratch on the blackhawks when they sucked.

Thats the scouting report by kevin dank.

Hawks fans had an orgasm when Aucoin got traded, Florida fans were happy when Juice left, Sharks fans were happy when Kipper left for a 2nd rounder.

Sutter is good at getting talent for a cheap price. Vandermeer played pretty good when he was in Chicago from what I recall.

Solid deal no matter what Philly fans think.

Vandy will be fine in a limited role. Our idiot coach played him 20 mins a night

Looks to me like strictly a depth move for the post-season, not bad.

Can't say I know anything really about Vandermeer, but for a 3rd rounder in 09, I really can't say I'm that dissapointed. Depth is never a bad thing.
