Flyers fan here...I'd be lying if I told you the high majority of Philly fans aren't going to be thrilled about this move.
Vandermeer is a tough customer, usually plays a good physical game, and even chips in on offense once in awhile.
His biggest drawbacks are pretty much bonehead plays in his own zone, bonehead turnovers, etc. All that crap is what has him being so heavily criticized in Philly...he's cost us one too many goals recently.
and another one big and slow. we need rather some puckmoving and well-skating dman,.
He's not really big and slow. Calling him that would be quite extreme. He plays a tough and physical game, but he's not the biggest guy in the world. He's not the fastest guy in the world either, but nor is he terribly slow.
And while I wouldn't call him the kind of guy you would bring in to solve your "puckmoving" problems, he is somewhat of a puckmoving, well-skating dman. Lol...let me stress "somewhat."
I'm not sure exactly how your team stacks up on defense, or what your needs are for the rest of the season.....but, in short, I'd say Vandermeer would be a good choice for a team who needs a 3rd pairing defenseman with some grit.
Again, whether or not that is something your team needs...I don't know.
