Recchi

With Gags being shut down for the season, Lupul out for another three weeks, Upshall still gimpy, Downie & Tolpeko suffering a concussion, and Giroux heading back to the Q what do you think about picking up Rex?

Veteran that can play either wing making $1.75MM. Wouldn't cost much in a trade and he would be motivated competing w/ the Pens for playoff positioning. Also, would be another veteran presence should the Flyers actually trade Smith.

upshall - briere - umberger
rex - carter - knuble
hartnell - richards - kapanen
cote - dowd - downie

Playoff Forwards

upshall - briere - umberger
rex - carter - knuble
hartnell - ricahrds - lupul
kapanen - dowd - downie

i wouldn't be adverse to it. see if atlanta will take a third rounder for him, maybe at the very most the pick and potulny/rosy. since he's a UFA this year anyways, no harm adding him.

...and i really liked rex, so yeah, i'm for it

He was and is still my favorite player, I wanted them to get him when he was put on waivers...I think putting him on a line with Carter would be perfect.

So yes, I like the idea of getting him.

Yeah, but from what I've read he likes it there and wants to stay.

Of course, that's not really up to him at this point, and it could just be talk.

Here's my problem with it...Rex has 1 point in his last 6 games (an assist) and 1 goal in his last 19. If we brought him in as secondary scoring for the 3rd line, maybe 2nd...no problem. He just won't produce like he used to, and isn't worth moving assets for, unless there really is no interest in Rosy and Pots.

Rex is a RW, Already over there we have Downie Lupul and Knuble. I know Lupul is out probably 2 more weeks but I just don't see Recchi providing that much help. It's not like a whole bunch of guys played with him before the lockout, all that's left from that team is Gagne and Kapanen if I remember correctly. I love Recchi but I gotta pass this one.

This is very likely Recchi's last season. He might think he has something left, but deep down I'm sure he doesn't want to be in a situation where he doesn't know if he's going to play one night to the next.

If the Flyers can get him at a low cost, then go for it, but as long as everyone realizes that his presence means nothing more than Cote sits a few games. He won't make the team better or worse. If we get him, I'd be satisfied with 2 points a week. If he turns out to be useless, I won't be disappointed either.

with the injuries we have right now he would be an inexpensive stop gap move...i would look at him similar to kapanen...someone that can be move from the 2 nd to the 4th line on any given night but i would look at him as a regular especially in the playoffs.

our forwards are extremely young group when healthy but with lupul and gags out also upshall and downie not 100% recchi would be a better fit then rosie, tolpeko, potulny for a team in the final stretch trying to make the playoffs

OR, they could bring geof sanderson back

If it costs nothing but a little cap space, I'd let him score the odd goal for us and retire a Flyer.

Why try and fill Gagne's spot? It is going to cost you Carter unless it is someone like Rex that wont cost a hell of a lot....

For like a 4th round pick or later, why not. He can fill in for Gagne and hopefully help get us in the playoffs and get these young guys some experience in the playoffs.

I dont want to trade Carter, Umberger, Upshall etc. for a Gagne replacement cause you are just opening another hole

I don't want Homer to make any type of panic moves, but if this could be pulled off without giving up anything too serious, I'd be glad to bring back Rex.

1) Obviously, I love the guy

2) How awesome would it be for him to come back for a 3rd stint and possibly finish his career in a Flyers jersey

3) Not a lot of salary, I would think Homer could maneuver something simple if he wanted to go after him

4) Guess what, folks?! Say what you want, buy Rex has 25 pts in 32 games with the Thrashers. That's .78 pts per game...the only players in our lineup with a higher average PPG are Richards and Briere! (Lupul's is higher too)

The thing is, though, if everyone's healthy, we really don't have much of a spot for him...unless someone like Downie stays on the fourth line, which I might not be completely opposed to. I know Downie has had some great games recently, but hey, a couple of those were when he was on the fourth line...and they were some of his best games since he's joined the club. I think maybe it's a good idea to have him there if we make the playoffs. He's a young kid, he's got plenty of years ahead of him, and there's nothing wrong with him serving the team in a limited role right now. His conditioning needs to get better anyway, so fourth line minutes would be a good thing in that sense. If Downie did play on the fourth, maybe you're looking at something like this down the stretch...

Lupul-Briere-Upshall
Hartnell-Richards-Downie
Umberger-Carter-Recchi
Kapanen-Dowd-Downie

sorry Cote

Most trade ideas I see around here don't interest me, but this one I'd at least consider. Recchi could certainly help the team right now, and could even fit in and contribute when everyone is healthy.
