The "Marian Hossa Trade Speculation" Thead

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/article/20...8/CPACTUALITES

In french. Basically says the Canadiens have ordered equipment for Hossa. From a reputable reporter in montreal. He doesn't make up crap usually. Also says it could mean nothing because the habs had done the same with Khabibulin/Aucoin before but the trade got nixed the day after because Aucoin broke an ankle.

He points out this does not mean that the trade is a done deal and that such things occasionally do fall through. But it does mean that the talks are serious and that would indicate Montreal feels the likelihood of landing Hossa is high and that they want to have equipment ready when it happens.

Obviously, teams won't order equipment for other teams' players willy-nilly.

(BTW, Theodore, Ribeiro and Dagenais for Khabibulin and Aucoin? Shudder...)

A bit more details for those who don't speak french.

The Khabibulin/Aucoin trade was rumored to include Theodore, Ribeiro and Dagenais on the Hab's part.

Name of Streit, Ryder and maybe a pick or a prospect was floating around but could not be verified.

Mathias Brunet usually doesn't make stuff up at trade deadline. I don't remember him pushing a Halak+Ryder+2nd type proposal...

lol, I misread the title as 'Canadiens offered equipment for Hossa'. A bag of pucks may be fair value for Aucoin, but not Hossa.

But seriously, I think that is quite poor to do that until all papers are signed and it is official.

Mistake the article for being a normal Habs trade offer on this board?

Also the guy wouldn't post that article at 23h53 if he didn't get a report from reliable sources... Its only equipment but you never know.

The smart thing to do for Wadell is to trade him at the deadline so he wont be ready to play against his team on Tuesday night at the bell center...

Well, the deal isn't final and may even just turn out to be a rumor. I don't think it's poor because it shouldn't affect the outcome of this "deal". It just means that if the deal passes, then the Habs will have Hossa ready almost immediately, and if the deal does not go through, then the Habs just wasted a bit of money ordering equipment for a player that isn't coming to the team. I'm sure any hockey team can afford the equipment of one extra player.
