He doesn't want to give up a draft pick just because the entry draft is in Ottawa? That's bad management.

Bad management? Ottawa has never traded it's first rounder in modern franchise history. Plus, the team is among the best draft teams in the NHL.

I will be highly, highly surprised if Hossa goes to Ottawa. I think San Jose, Montreal and Detroit are more likely suitors.

If Hossa be traded...Kovy did ask the same...2 years from now ?

Hossa want to play for a contender ? Yes !

But do you think Kovy will ask a trade...when is contract expire ?

It's something to think...I don't kown Wandell plan...but if you want to give a great hockey team...you have to compete with the best !

Trade Hossa...o.k. but get a descent return !!!

Because Kovy will bew the next in line...I think !

Just for add to all trade proposal...

Atlanta: Fisher-Lee-Zubov and 2rd 08 + 1st 09

Ottawa: Hossa + Zhitnik

Expect Ottawa to sign Hossa at Alfredsson salary around 5M$...Hossa said the $$$ is not the most part of the deal...he want to win !!!!

If Hossa don't resign...you dumb the Fisher contract...you get more money to spend on free agent this summer...And you know...probably you play in june !!!

Trading 1st round picks for playoff rentals prevents you from drafting the Marian Hossa's, Martin Havlat's, Anton Volchenkov's and Andrej Meszaros' of the world.

I'd say it's pretty good management.

Unless... of course, you'd rather be like the Leafs?

What's going to prevent Murray from getting back into the first round draft day, should he trade the pick away now?

As of now, they'd likely pick around 25th or so, how hard could it be to package their 2nd with a pick from the next draft to move up?

Does OTT not have a 2nd rounder?

Ottawa already have the best offence, league leaders in goals scored. How much they can improve by swapping parts there? IMHO Murray should be working on their defensive department, since they are not nearly the best team there.

It's true, nobody would have said this a few months ago. But a few months ago Ottawa looked to be running away with the division. Since Montreal has really gelled and started looking like champs with 2 #1 goaltenders in the net

Guys like Streit and Ryder could be inserted in their lineup and contribute immediately.

Chances are Gainey doesn't mind giving up picks/prospects and UFAgents for what might prove to be a rental, but is very hesitant to give up players who are significant in the Habs plans for next year and beyond. Unless Hossa is signed to an extension, I don't think Gainey will be willing to give up young guys who are already NHLers and are in the Habs plans for next year.
Okay, let's re-evaluate:

he probably also gets a prospect or high pick from habs.

gainey only agrees to this (meaning two, established vet roster players) because all of them are UFA's after this year.
So you also think Gainey will get Hossa (UFA) for Ryder (UFA), Streit (UFA), and a prospect OR high pick?

Kool-Aid much?

I think they have 2, Chicago's as well iirc or it might be a 3rd

Agreed.

I don't want Hossa for what it will cost. The Sens shouldn't blow their load addressing a something that isn't their number 1 priority.

If Kovalchuk asks for a trade, Atlanta can pack it up too.
