Good luck finding takers for Weight and Tkachuck's contracts! I think Drake and Mellanby would get considerable interest from contending teams.

The Blues look like a team that could do some damage in the playoffs. Why deal these guys?

Definitely not time to panic in St. Lou...they have a team that could do some serious damage and has some major playoff savvy.

This is stupid. Why trade away the entire core of a team destined to comfotably make the playoffs? And it's not like this is a fluke run: they have the longest current streak for playoff appearences for all 4 leagues.

Why would you trade Pronger?

On thier current streak of collapsing in every game they play, they could see themselves OUT of the play-off picture in 2 games.

nashville has Tied them. LA, Calgary and Dallas are all 1 point back. LA is currently Outside of the play-off Picture.

There IS a chance that they could not make the play-offs. a slim chance, but they are losing games at the worst time.

This thread blows. The Blues are a contender in the West, who happens to be in a deep funk. They'll get out of it, and be a force in the play-offs.

I was thinking that this is probably their year since no one's expecting it.

With all the similar questions being asked to the guy who started this thread... With everyone agreeing that it makes ZERO sense for the Blues to have a fire sale right now... I think it would be sensible to close this thread. Anyone agree?

Even if St. Louis wanted to suddenly dump it's core and rebuild or whatever, why in the world trade Pronger? It isn't like he's old or something. I also don't see the point in actively trying to trade Boguniecki.

Dallas Drake is just what we need on our right side, alternating between Donovan, Kobasew and Clark. I don't trust Kobe to be a playoff factor, and Clark and Donovan don't strike me as being top-six material. At least Drake has the leadership, the two-way ability and the playoff experience.

Given that, I imagine a good prospect and a high-to-mid round pick could land him. I think Sutter would make a mistake passing on this guy.

Have you checked the standings lately? If the Flames win tonight, Blues are in 7th.

B/c his contract his up. If he won't re-up at a reasonable salary, then yes I'd deal him.

But he's the franchise player and the Blues aren't exactly in a rebuilding mode. If anything, he'd be the one to keep despite all the crazy contract Larry Pleau has dished out.
Get the Blues to stop taking a few dozen penalties every game and maybe they'll work their way out of their funk they're in right now.

He is a RFA and you just dont trade players like him in the prime of their career.

While I think that there will be moves coming I dont think there will be a fire sale or that the team should be blown up.

They should acquire a top notch goaltender..maybe Kolzig or Burke and they can do a lot of damage. Maybe a offensive defenseman too to help in the depth departement.

Here we go again.

Kolzig, maybe... Burke, on the other hand, is a has-been who can't win in the playoffs.

Period. Paragraph. End of story.

90% of the people on this board weren't even shaving yet the last time Burke won a playoff series in the NHL.
