If Slats asking for a 2nd round -- nobody would label that expensive. A 2nd rounder for someone who have been a nr 2 D for a solid NHL team is labled a dump, nothing else. Its not that I wouldn't be suprised if Malik was dumped, not at all. But if the only reporter Slats is talking to says first that Slats have put a expensive pricetag on Malik, and then reports that Slats now got offers on the table thats good enough for Malik (like "Malik will be moved, take it to the bank") it seems like maybe Slats is on his way to pull something off here. It wouldn't be the first time. He did get Bourret for less then Malik.
Understand what you are saying, but calling Malik a Num 2 is a big big big reach. He is a decent 4 or 5 but not a top 3 guy to say the least. He has been out of the lineup this year as a healthy scratch, and has had problems with the coaching staff. Not sure he could fetch a 1st, but a 2nd is possible. While D is a huge asset for the playoffs so is scoring. If teams are balking at a 1st for Satan, I highly doubt Malik could grab you a 1st rounder.

I could see Malik going out for a second round pick and that pick turned around for a player like Salei or Stuart. Similar to the Niemannen/Ozo deals two years ago.

Eklund still speculating that the Rangers are going hard after Boyle and (hopefully he means OR) McCabe.

If the Rangers are trying to get one or the other, I'd prefer Boyle

Apparently Sundin will not waive his NTC. Looks like the price for Hossa will more than likely go up.

I'd rather go after Liles then Boyle.

Younger, produces a lot (although having a bad year) and would probably cost a lot less in personnel and to resign.

I would never trade a goalie prospect with franchise potential to a division rival. Especially not for Jason Smith.

NOTE: Some ideas are better left inside our heads. This is a downright terrible proposal for the reason listed above mine, plus this is the guy that the Flyers refer to as Jason "Stiff." Awful.

id love to snag Moreau, he is the type we need, big gritty wingers that can score a bit.

for some reason i got a feeling that Sydor will be a Ranger by Tuesday. and maybe a low risk trade like the rights to anton Babchuk. sather takes risks with players. Babchuk adds size and has been known as a attitude problem but hey people said the same thing about Avery.

rangers have the tools to grab a big time defenseman, which they actually need. the question is, how much are they willing to give up. Liles, Salei, or Jackman are interesting names. Obviously Jackman would be the guy all of us would want, but at what price?

Gotta think that Prucha, Hossa are available. Would have said Dawes before, but he's actually putting up nowadays. Some B level prospects like Baranka, Bourret, and Moore. Any pick(s) other than our first.

I have a feeling Sather is gonna be stingy

I doubt it, he's incredibly valuable to the Pens in Letang's development. Plus he's one of the better players in their defensive zone, so I can't see them dealing him, especially to a division rival with nothing to offer back.

We won't be trading with anyone or acquiring anyone in the Atlantic Division.

I can almost gladly say I'd paypal you 5 dollars if that happened.

As for everything else, I really doubt anything happens now. We've got points in 7 straight games, won 5 of our last 7, cruising into playoff position...

The offense has started to show up and it's finally here so there's no need for more offense..

The goaltending is getting better...

The defense is on thin ice but they will keep it together, I think.

Sather doesn't do anything this trade deadline.

I think Slats is going to coast through the deadline. The only deal I see him possibly doing is for a minor defensive upgrade in the form of Jackman or Liles.

It would be very tempting to trade Malik for a 2nd or 3rd rounder, but it looks like we're too thin on defence to be able to do that. Otherwise, I think we should do nothing.
