A trade piece? Not sure about that. And while he might not be on Dubinsky's level, I would like to point this out:
Dubinsky: 64 games played 12 goals, 18 assists for 30 points
Dawes: 43 games played 10 goals, 9 assists for 19 points.
That's 11 points fewer in 21 fewer games played.
Bad comparison. While their point scoring rate is similar. Dawes is no way near Dubinsky's level defensively.
And that is why Dubi is not a trade piece and Dawes ( who I love btw ) is a trade piece.
In a perfect world. They both reach their potential and we watch them for the next 10+ years.
But in reality, not all young players stick around. A lot of them get used in order to improve the team in other areas.
Its up to Dawes to make sure that trading him does not become an option.
