Yea, I saw that. He basically took a bullet, and shoved it into the spinal cord of my thread with his bare hands.

Although, Holmgren hasn't shown to be any better at telling the truth than Clarke was when he was the GM.

rog......i respect your opinion on a lot of stuff, but this one makes absolute no sense. we can barely fill a roster right now and u want to trade a player who one isnt set to be a RFA for another year and two isnt overpriced. Not to mention he is a fan favorite. His name only came up because we were buyers and he was an asset.

To NYR:
Umberger

To Philly:
Montoya + 2nd (Possibly Prucha as well)

Still, I just really don't like the idea of trading to Philly. I could see that coming to bite us on the ass big time of Montoya delivers on all the hype surrounding him.

Does this mean Carter will no longer be shopped or is he still on the market? Was he ever really on the market?

I didn't want opposing fanbases to get the opinion that he was untouchable, which he isn't. Everyone has a price, especially a player the coach refuses to play, hence the asterisk. If Holmgren plans on removing Stevens, they're going to be far more valuable to the Flyers because the replacement will most likely put them on the ice, and not in the press box.

I don't think he was ever really on the market, just Darren Dreger from TSN making **** up for ratings. He said something in an article of his, and the TSN crew hes been echoing it in some variation ever since. Is it possible? Sure. But with Richards suffering a hamstring pull, I don't think it's very probable, if at all.

That's not a bad deal but I think the Flyers ONLY trade Carter for a young dman.

On the market? I'd say no. Available in the right trade? I'd say yes, but it'd have to be for a young puck moving defenseman (Kaberle fit that bill, as does Suter).

I'd want a 1st for Smith, but I'd settle for Smith + '09 2nd or 3rd for a 1st.

Maybe Smith to San Jose for a 1st. I'd deal him to NY for Montoya straight up in a second, but I doubt the Flyers would trade their captain to the Rangers in what most would consider a playoff race.

I'd want something of similar value for Knuble. I'd like a 1st or a top tier goaltending prospect (Irving, Schneider both certainly fit the bill), but I'd rather not trade Nodl in the deal. I'd trade another secondary forward prospect, pretty much anyone in the organization beyond Downie, JVR, and Giroux.

I wouldn't deal Umberger or Upshall unless the return was very good. Umberger is turning into a very good two-way 60 point winger. The return would have to be very good to part with him and I'm a big Upshall fan and he has an affordable salary so I'd hold onto him as well.

I also agree with the thread starter, it's time to sell. We've lost Richards probably for the season (don't care what Homer says, you don't come back in 3 weeks from a torn hamstring). We've lost Gagne for the season. Lupul is out another 3 weeks. We've probably lost Hatcher for the season. We have the worst X and O's coach in the league. This season is done, do what's best for the future and move the guys that will put you in an even better position to compete for the future.

That's more then enough value, but we really just need an excellent, young puck moving defenseman in exchange for Jeff. I'd probably make the deal and then turn around and deal Bouchard and another asset for the guy we need, but I think Minnesota is giving up much too much in that deal.

I'm not really interested in Hudler or Lebda. Replace one of them with a 2nd and I'd do it.

The team is falling apart, physically and mentally. We just lost by FAR our best player probably for the season (Richards). We lost our second best player for the season (Gagne). We lost our 2nd best goaltender for another 3 weeks (Lupul). We lost one of our top 3 defenseman possibly for the season (Hatcher, as strange as that might sound, has been very good this year). The coach has lost the team, the young guys have hit a wall, the goaltending can't make the big save, just too many things to overcome.

Great GM's do what is best for their team regardless of what people might think. Trading guys like Smith and Knuble for usable assets when Smith will be gone next year and Knuble's value will never be higher (A LOT of teams needs a guy like Knuble) is what is right for this team. Now I don't agree with the thread starter that trading Upshall or Umberger for anything short of a very good, normal return would be the correct move, but other then that I'm all aboard the sell train.

I like that you include a replacement for Carter, taking into account the Flyers situation with Richards. However, that's a ridiculous overpayment on Minnesota's behalf.

That seems like serious overpayment, I don't even see how Carter is that much more valuable than Bouchard? Both 23 years old, and Bouchard is outscoring him by like 13 points? I like Carter more because of his overall game...but still
