Mara injured?

Does anyone have an update on how serious that blow to the head was?

And more importantly are we seriously going to have Malik and Struds on the blue-line at the same time?

Wow, I didn't get to watch this game with sound or anything as I was at work, but that was a dirty hit by Kaleta and then a HUGE dive on that Staal hit. In addition, those Buffalo announcers are the biggest homers going.

Staal is awesome

I love how the announcers are exaggerating everything. They barely even showed a replay on the edit:Buffalo broadcast

fixed

ESPN is calling him day to day. I imagine if it was serious, he'd be IR'd right away in order to bury his cap hit.

It was kinda high, but Mara wasn't even looking. And I dont think he dove for Staal, Staal came over and threw him down.

Anyways I'm glad to see Staal act up.

Couple of things, as a Hamilton Bulldogs season ticket holder I've seen Kaleta quite a bit with Rochester, he has a long history of diving and turtling, I'm of the belief that that was a pretty good dive.

Secondly, the Buffalo announcers are going on about the cut and it only being 2 minutes. Am I wrong or is it only an automatic 4 if there is blood on a stick penalty?
Roughing isn't a stick penalty.

The Sabres are on MSG, too. Their old RSN, Empire, folded during the lockout.

The Rangers, Devils, Islanders, Sabres and Sharks are all on stations owned by Rainbow Media (Cablevision).

Kind of Buffalo's newer version of Vaclav Varada--maybe not as talented. The couple times I've seen him he has been running around trying to nail people--kind of like Hollweg--although Ryan seems more willing to back it up. I liked what Marc did a lot. Whether Kaleta was acting or not--Staal gave him a real good shot. The one thing with Mara is he got up and skated off on his own steam. If he's got a head injury at least he wasn't real wobbly. As far as the homer Buffalo announcers--their fan base absolutely loves them--Jeanrette is kind of the Rush Limbaugh of hockey announcers. I think he's awful.

Empire more or less imploded in the wake of the Enron-styled corporate scandals towards the beginning of the Bush 2 administration. Their owner John Rigas and at least some of his sons are currently in federal prison after having bilked their corporation and its customers for billions of dollars.

I'd bet good money the cut happened during the hit with Mara anyway, not from Staal throwing him down.

a 4th line scrub gives a high hit on a 5th/6th defenseman, and it's a declaration of war? no

I heard this morning on WFAN that Mara was concussed, but they didn't give any indication on how long he'd be out. All this does is underscore the need for a defenseman. This team can't make a run at anything with Jason Strudwick playing nightly, and the team not carrying a 7th defenseman.

Anyone know if Baranka is still injured?

Someone said he had a concussion, in which case i think it pretty much kills a deadline deal for him...

A question somewhat related to this: If we were to call up Pck or Hutchinson (or anybody for that matter) after the trade deadline to replace Mara and they pass through waivers, they would still be eligible for the playoffs because they're in our organization before the trade deadline, right? If Hutchinson is any good, maybe he could replace Mara if we don't trade for a defenseman and this injury is serious because it wouldn't make too much sense for another team to pick him up after the trade deadline, since he wouldn't be eligible for their playoff roster, unless they have some injuries like we did last season, leading to the Strudwick signing.
