Suter won't be traded. Nashville is in the thick of the playoff hunt and he's an RFA, not a UFA at seasons end. Trading Suter makes no sense for Nashville.

The team is better off with Mara out and Staal with Strudwick.

Leaves Malik with Rozy.

Think the team is better off because Mara with Strudwick is brutal. Neither can pass the puck and neither have quickness. At least Malik can anticipate his way to a turnover every now and then.

The team is not better off with Malik and Strudwick being on the ice at the same time.

Definitely, but they won't be. WHich is what I said in my post.

Malik remains with Rozy and Staal goes with Struds, which I actually think works better than with Mara.

Actually it does. If he can't be signed now as an RFA, he will undoubtebly draw a lot of offer sheet interest this summer. Nashville may not be in a position to match depending on who offers what. RFA is a real problem for lower dollar teams.

But if I'm them I'd rather keep him for the playoff run and then take the draft picks if I can't resign him.

I think I like the Mara hit better. He hits our guy and two sabres go down and then Staal straight up knocks him back down on his ass.

Mara doesn't have a concussion, but he does likely have a broken bone in his face.

The Injury Reserve does not work that way in the NHL. The Rangers will only put Mara on the IR when they call someone up (or in the remote chance they sign someone).

Only the person's salary they bring in/up to replace Paul Mara is discounted against his cap hit.

Agree he is better than Struds, but for whatever reason Staal seems to look a bit better with Struds over Mara. That is my only logic behind that. Either way, I think Malik with Rozy and Staal on the third pair is the best defensive lineup for the Rangers.

If Hutchinson is any good, maybe he could replace Mara if we don't trade for a defenseman and this injury is serious because it wouldn't make too much sense for another team to pick him up after the trade deadline, since he wouldn't be eligible for their playoff roster, unless they have some injuries like we did last season, leading to the Strudwick signing.
Yes, just like they called up Dawes last year on the last playoff game, and he only played 8 games in the season for us.

This means we might have to keep Malik.

No it doesn't. It just means Strudwick plays until Mara gets back.

No I think it means we are 100% getting a dman either tonight or tomorrow.

So who do you guys want most?

I'm hoping for Jackman, I like him the most to fit here than other guys mentioned. Boyle is gonna be resigned, Foote is too old, Suter I don't really think is available and would cost more than Jackman.

I'm intrigued by a name Edge dropped on us last night in passing - Brad Stuart.
