Just a hunch but.......

I really believe the guy Bob is after is Richards. We seldom have been able to foresee Bob's moves and with all of the rumors of Tanguay and Hossa out there, I really believe Bob is working on getting Richards. It would come out of left field and would certainly NOT be a sideways move.

I have the same feeling (that Bob is after B. Richards).

So would I.. I understand he's expensive, but he is a 1A Centerman after all... Very consistent and plays with nobody in TB, almost all the time.. If he played with some of our guys he'd do even better i think.

I think Bob is trying to pull off a simular trade to the Bobby Smith trade made by Serge by in 83.

What would it cost?

Certainly:
1- Grabovski
2- 1st pick
3- Either Subban/Fischer/Valentenko/Emelin or two of them
4- A current player in the lineup

That would be sweet.

He's a better overall player than Hossa imo. His playoff stats are insane.

It would be a better move than trading almost as much for Hossa, considering we wouldn't risk losing Richards to free agency in the off season. Not to mention adding another cup winner to our team won't hurt.

Richards is nice maybe we would have cap room to bring Vinny in next year too. I agree there is alot of talk about Hossa and tanguay and Bob usually doesnt tip his hand so Richards makes sense possibly Jokinen too not much talk about him recently very early on there was talk of him but now its quieted down. we will see

Brad Richards is one of my favorite non-Hab players since he entered the league. He's such a smart, competitive, complete player. Plus, he's a really nice guy off the ice too. I really don't care if he makes 7.8M per season because he'd immediately become our most important player IMO. That won't change my point of view: Richards is really the guy Gainey should be aiming for.

What a threat this powerplay unit would be: Kovalev, Plekanec and Kostitsyn making jaw-dropping passing plays, and Markov-Richards on the blueline being equally as good at making beautiful passes, with both of them having pretty strong and accurate shots.

Richards is my favorite among all the options out there. Don't like his contract, but I'm not paying, so I'm willing to overlook that.

He's center/left wing, so would fit with Koivu on the 2nd line.....

Playoff MVP in the Q, in the Memorial Cup, and when the Lightning won the Stanley Cup.

One of the smartest players I see out there.

Richards has been ill this year which has not helped his performance.

He is a great player, granted expensive. Let's keep in mind that it will cost Gainey this offseason to resign current players and I am not sure how this would all suss out re:Cap.

Richards is only at 48.1 % on face-offs, so he wouldn't help there.

Gainey knows what he is willing to give up for an impact player. My guess is that the following are available:
(1) Off the Roster: Ryder (not including Dandy here, no one would want him)
(2) Prospects: Grabovski, Fischer, Locke, Halak
(3) Draft picks: Anything outside a 1st round pick

Would any combo of the above be enough?

Eh, no.... Pleks, Higgy and Komi are not due until next year (July 2009), altho they will probably be extended comes July 1st of this year (but their new salaries won,t count against the cap next season), but that's a mute points since the cap will go upwards of 55 mil.... and probably reach over 60 mil comes the other season.

And we don't know what will happen with Ryder, Smokes, Breezer, Huet, Streit.

Anyways, I think we'd be quite Ok with Richards in the lineup and the cap.

Hope so. Richards is one helluva player and I think he brings more value to this team's (hopeful) playoff run than Hossa.

He's also expensive, but assuming we were to get Hossa resigned, what do you think he would cost us?!

Richards is a proven playoff winner/warrior, and he seems to play well in the Bell Centre so why not get him here?

Well, they are most likely going to want Halak since they have goaltending issues. I'm assuming Ryder would also be involved, another prospect (Grabs or Fischer), and also a first. I think Bob will have to be willing to move his first to get an elite player like Richards who is not merely a rental.

Hmmm... that would make sense...

Grabovski + Ryder + Emelin(or)Fischer + 1st pick (Ryder gone would not clear enough cap space tho)

Add Dandy. Promote D'Aggs.
