cheap d=$ for free agents?

ok, so you know toots, girardi and staal will be on the team next year. combined, they will make a shade under 5 mil. You figure hutchinson will make the team next year based on his solid play in the ahl (leads dmen in scoring, voted captain of the pack). he would make under a mil. sauer also will have a serious shot to make this team. so right there, under 7 mil for 5 of your top 6. You could either pay rozy, or go get a redden and still have some money left over to get a nice forward....probably not hossa, but someone in the 4-5.5 mil range like a vrbata or a huselius, either of which would look good next to gomez.

thoughts?

am i way off? I feel like hutch and sauer could be a solid 3rd pair.

then theres baranka who is ready, pock is ready.....

i would like to see hutch and sauer/baranka given chances to make the team....if hutch has improved his defence then he could be a solid 3rd pairing defenceman who could man the point on the pp..

enough with sanguinetti, everyone knows he's not making the team out of camp. offensive d men need a little more time. he needs some hartford seasoning, at least half a season if not a full season.

Dunno about that argument. He's putting up monster numbers, ones better than Staal even, and Stalsy made it straight outta camp. I'd say Sangs has a better shot than Sauer, although i agree he should play a season with the pack.

Didn't you say the same thing about Staal last year?

Sign rozival and bring up 2 youngsters. Unless we can get Redden for cheap w/ Rozi.

I don't think so. I'll reserve my final judgement for after training camp, but Staal projected to be a shutdown type from the get go, Sangs projects to be an offensive, pp qb type

Please no on Hutchinson being with the Rangers. WOuld be cheap but the guy has awful positioning. Was brutal in the pre-season and I see little reason why it would change.

he might have gotten better by playing lots of minutes in hartford...and if the rangers are looking at mcCabe, then hutchinsin is probably just as good defensively and is much cheaper

Does anyone think the amount of time Sauer's been injured this year sets him back in his development?

What about Thomas Pock? He was great last season during the Atlanta series, surely he gets a shot to make the team.
